You may want to save up some more money and get an Asus Xonar.

The X-Fi chip is still a better card then the Xonar in XP. Here is some reading for you (the article discusses the X-Fi prelude, which is a high end X-Fi based card):

Only $3 more than the Xonar, but has true EAX 4&5 Support, also can't go wrong with the X-Fi. I love my X-Fi Platinum w/ Front Panel.
