Marantz quality has dipped quite a bit since the 1990s, but it is still a great brand, and this unit should sound great with the right speakers. Nice find.

the current 4000 series Marantz receiver retails for $550. It's rather low end Marantz. I was able to find some information
http://us.marantz.com/u_sr4400.pdf

and the owners manual:
http://us.marantz.com/c_sr4400_man.pdf

looks like a nice 80wpc surround receiver
