Games like Quake wars ET where you can select the card to use for outputs and inputs you can.

I have ran Dual sound cards in vista before ages ago with a program called Veblac(req a creative card to send to another sound card) And without it.

The best thing that you should do is, get a sound card that has connection for front audio jacks on your case. so you can use speakers at the rear and your headphones in the front panel audio. XFI's should have front audio panel connectors,so do xonars and I pretty sure there are other sound cards that do.
No offense, but that's exactly how my setup is now and what I'm trying to avoid (because using my headphones in the front panel gives terrible feedback and interference due to the cable for it being unshielded)

I'm likely to see (or hear) the greatest of my X-Fi through my headphones, rather than my speakers. I'm going to go ahead and install the second card and report back with my opinions.

I could just use tin foil and eletrical tape, but that's far too much hassle!

I've popped the lid and thrown this SoundMax SupremeFX II back in there. To be quite the honest there's not much difference to be had in sound quality. Lack of EAX, yes and the EQ is a little messed up, but I've got it sounding half decent.

Like I've said, I use my headphones mainly and they're plugged into the Creative card. I've noticed the interference has gone straight away. Why didn't I think of this 6 months ago?!

I've had two sound cards, all you have to do is switch which one windows uses in the sound options in the control panel.

Also you can use one for sound and one for mic if you want, you just can't use both for sound at once AFAIK.

woops I didnt notice you said you was using your front panel already must been half sleep. A splitter for the front out on your soundcard for your headphones and speakers would work.

Also you can use digital for your speakers and analog for your headphones like I do. By buying that DD live XFI addon for 4 bucks and plugging in a spdif adaptor to the back in the digital out combo jack. Only thing about that, the idea only work if your speakes are digital too.

But a splitter would def work as your best option.
