Default Big upgrade. Suggestions plz.

So, I've been using onboard sound and crappy $5 headphones my whole life.

Christmas/New Year/ My birthday ( Jan 1st ) is coming up

and my mom asked me what present I wanted.

I was thinking of the Audio Technica ath-a700 or 900 and maybe an auzentech prelude sound card.

Any better suggestions out there?
Also, I can't find the a900, but i can find the a700 on newegg.

Edit: I game a lot and I am most definitely a music junkie.
I listen to all types of music besides country.
jrock, techno, trance, electronica, metal, pop, classical, opera, everything but country.

System: Piece of no good Mmhmm.

d1000's are your best bet. for that price range. if you can afford to get the d2000's are even better but they need an amp. to start you off try the fiio e3 over at deal extreme less than $10 shipped will keep you over till you can eather build a cmoy or buy a larger amp.

cool. i don't like how the d1000s look and d2000 are too expensive.
I think I'll stick with a900s unless there are better headphones that are around same price.

will the a900s need an amp?

also, what sound card?

hoolllyyyy craaaap.

that's $70 more.

thanks anyways..i think I might have to pitch in some cash also.

edit: also..

close dynamic means that no one will be able to hear what you're listening to and you won't be able to hear anything besides the sound coming out of the headphones?

open air dynamic means the opposite?

sound cancellation is very important to me.
