Default x fi crackling problem

Just reinstalled windows and got the latest xfi drivers.
Sounds fine but then when i boot up any game i get this annoying crackling sound. But even after i close the game and play music the crackling is still there and the only way to fix it is reinstall the driver, but then when i play a game again it comes back.

Any ideas?

Do you have ALchemy installed? If you don't, that might have something to do with it.

Try turning spread spectrum on in BIOS. This helps component frequencies from interfering with each other.

Also, when you load your game are you using more then your 2GB of memory? I've seen similar issues with x-fi and rigs with only 1GB ram. Though, this may only be issues with onboard x-fi.

X-FI crackling is 90% happening on nvidia based motherboards. Check for a bios update.

Just to get some more info, was the sound crackling in games before you did the reinstall? If not, try using older drivers (previous release or something).
