using vista 32. So far haven't noticed any problems but would alchemy improve my gaming experience? anyone care to link me to some info?
Basically i play A LOT of left 4 dead. Some tf2 and a little dead space/fallout 3 here and there.

Alchemy is used for older games, more or less emulation with Direct Sound.
Here is some information. I am no expert, but I have never had to use it and all my games run just fine. Just my .02

Alchemy is only necessary in Vista if you are attempting to play a game that doesn't use OpenAL.

My understanding of l4d is that OpenAL is used so no worries then.

EAX does not require Alchemy in Vista for games that support OpenAL.

EAX and OpenAl are two different things, yet both of them are sound related. If you want EAX enable in any game old or new you need Alchemy, thats the only tool that can emulate DS in Vista so that EAX would work. OpenAl doesn't need alchemy, works just fine in Vista and you might say it's an alternative to DS, implicitly to EAX. So what's the point of this OpenAl + Alchemy talk when that stated pretty clear on Creative site?

If you play FALLOUT 3 then you need alchemy because FA3 uses Directsound. So you're pretty much screwed if you don't
