Default High-end headphone set up

Hi, im looking to upgrade the sound quality of my system, I'm mainly interested in music playback but I also do alot of gaming so both of those need to be catered for. I only ever use headphones on my pc, because of this I was thinking of getting a high end soundcard- probably a Auzentech X-fi Prelude and then connecting that to a dedicated headphone amp-probably a Creek OBH 11, is this a good idea? or is it unnessercery to use a sound card AND headphone amp? also- How would the amp connect to the soundcard? would it use a normal stereo to line out cable?

Any help on these questions would be very much appreciated!

Thanks

P.S the headphones im using are Grado SR-325i's

ok you would conect it with a 1/8th trs to rca interconect.

but i would recomend the little dot mk2 for the headphone amp. its cheaper and its a tube amp. so it will give more warmth to your music. the 325I are great music cans but i dont realy think they would work all that well for gameing. but if your just looking for an amp heres a good one for less than the creek

as for the soundcard + amp nessisary yes if you have headphones that are hard to drive. or you are looking to improve sound quality or add diferent colorations.

I'd sugest going tube as well, the little dot is a fine choice, there is also the darkvoice... and I can personally say that the auzentech prelude is a great card
