Ever since i installed the new realtek software 208 or 209 i believe... ive noticed an automated change in volume when a sound would normally go over the scale and distort, this is a good thing i guess but i'd rather i was in control of all my volumes..
I get this when i play music.. for example whenever theres a drumbeat, when its supposed to be quite loud, it seems to be dimmed down over the duration of the drum beat and then turnt back up afterwards and so on.. In games.. when i fire i weapon it sounds quiet compared to the rest of the game.. how do i get rid of this annoying feature?

1. You have an onboard soundcard, is that sound driver for your Azalia HDA (onboard)? If that sound card did not come with the 790i, then you should be going to Azalia and getting their drivers.
2. Go into your Hardware Settings and restore your previous drivers for the sound card.

nothing at all in the control panel.. i cant figure it out either..
When i go to my volume mixer and i have say.. itunes for example at max volume, the green bar for master volume is totally lit.. meaning my volume is off the scale which is why the volume is automatically dimmed to stop the sound distorting... but it really pisses me off.. it never used to do this with the older sound drivers.. :S

I've had many boards, with many different audio chipsets, and many installations of Vista, and never had this problem. And AC97 is not what you want, you should uninstall it, and find the real driver.

I agree. This seems to be a driver issue, as there is no such feature in Vista that I know of. I have installed Vista many times, and never dealt with what you're talking about.

Are you sure it's azalia? And, didn't your mobo come with a driver disc? Uninstall the drivers you have installed so far. Pop the disc in, and install the audio drivers that came with the board. That should fix the problems.
