i have a gigabyte p965 ds3 board with 5.1 optical out to a lg 5.11080p surround and i cannot get it to pick up the surround speakers through the lg system. ive noticed that it only seems to work with a sample rate of 48 and nothing higher will work. anyone have any insight to this?

did you enable SPDIF in volume control?
If your trying to play a movie encoded with AC3 5.1, you will have download a codec pack(http://free-codecs.com/), then open AC3 config and set it to SPDIF. If you are playing a dvd you should switch to Dolby digital on the receiver automatically.
