Unhappy X-FI Platinum died, AC97

Yeah my Sound Blaster X-FI platinum died today, caused my computer to blue screen. I am forced to use my onboard sound. It makes some noise, is there anything I can do to reduce the noise? Also will it still play sound with my Blu Ray movies?

Try uninstalling and reinstalling your sound card drivers. Look for updated drivers first.

It shouldn't make noise though. Leads me to believe it's something else. Check for electrical leads crossing your speaker wires. That can cause noise, especially in cheap wire.

Don't know about your blu-ray, but I don't see why not. That board should have surround output, so you shouldn't have a problem.

The AC97 is actually pretty good so I think the noise is coming from something else in your electromagnetic farm (the inside of your computer). I noticed on my old laptop something in there caused a lot of noise (found out it was coming from the HDD because when it spun down their was no more noise)

It sounds good, its when nothing is playing and the sound is all the way down it makes a crackly, winey sound. Figure its a fan or HDD. I can tell a big diff in Ac97 and X-FI though. I really don't need the sound blaster. I just don't like the hum out of the speakers AC97 gets. As for the Sound Blaster card, I installed my drivers twice, even wiped them from the registry and reinstalled, it caused me to get the blue screen of death. I individually memtested the memory, tried both Video Cards, HDDS, etc. When I put the card and interface back it, it crashed. Prob either the interface or the card. If its the card, I'll get a new one and reuse the interface. Its okay, cause I'm running a Mackie Oynx 1640 Mixer,Mackie Mr8s, for my studio and won't be using that card anyways.
