Hey all,
__________________My sig rig's front audio stopped working out of nowhere a week ago (I don't recall changing anything that would affect the sound output). It had worked flawlessly for months before this. The strange part is, though, when I go into Sound in the Control Panel, I can test the output and I can hear the beeps just fine in my headphones. However, when I open any other program (Firefox, iTunes, VLC, etc. etc.) I cannot hear a thing. I've tried updating the Realtek HD Audio drivers that my mobo uses, but no luck. I've tried restarting Firefox/iTunes/whatever, but that doesn't fix the front jacks, either. I've tried shutting the computer down and removing/reattaching the cable onto the mobo, still no dice. Also, my speakers hooked up to the rear audio jack still work great. It's just the front ports. I know you guys can help me. I tried Google, but I couldn't describe my situation well enough to get any answers.

Try unplugging the rear speakers. then try the front panel again. Otherwise use driver cleaner in Safe mode, clear out the realtek, then reinstall. If that doesn't work, well geez.

are you sure that your front panel is plugged in right on your motherboard? but sounds like a software problem do what borito said delete your realtek folder 100% clear the reg and install in safe mode

Did you make sure to select your audio device appropriately? if anything is plugged in back, it is often defaulted for whatever reason. Thus you have to click the volume icon and manually select the audio device (front port wtv) while you have the app you want it to work in open BEFORE you right click the volume thing in toolbar thing.
:edit: I have the same problem with my Vista Business x64, that's why I suggest it

OK, going on borito's advice, I've unplugged the speakers (headphones in front only). The headphones work, since they're the only thing connected, so they get defaulted (like bloodfire was saying). Now, when I plug my speakers back in, they don't work unless I default them in the Control Panel. So this means that only the default device works, when before all devices (speakers and headphones) would work simultaneously. I don't really need to have them work at the same time, so I guess I've solved my problem since I can use my headphones again.
__________________If anyone can suggest a solution to make everything work simultaneously, it would help. Otherwise, this thread is history. Repped borito and bloodfire.

This is getting complicating. Were trying to figure out if your problem is hardware ,,, the speakers OR software the,, realtek HD drivers or driver setup...
__________________Soo take it one @ a time. It sounds like your speaker gave out. What is this 5.1 speakers or what! Anyhow see if you got warranty with speakers.... A mobo audio is not going to just die, yet play sounds in OS like you said... I guess its time to upgrade speakers save up money maybe,,,
