I recently tried the Spotify streaming service and have realised;
1. The usual MP3s I listen to are worse than this 2. I have plenty of HDD space sitting there doing nothing, so I want better music ![]() 3. Because my normal rig is in warranty, I have no games to play on this Open Sauce Laptop and I want something to do in my spare time So I want to know what is the best quality music there is and where I can find it ![]() Could you also give me an indication of how much Mb it takes up as well when you say whatever it is? Thanks.

The best quality music would be from lossless codecs like FLAC. You can get that from plain old CD's and ripping them to lossless rather than compressed formats like usual. Or you could download them, either illegally from people who've done from ripping the CD; or you could legally download them. Not sure if any lossless music stores exist though. Although Nine Inch Nails provide FLAC versions of their new album free to download. Although that's just the one artist.

FLAC torrents are hard to obtain. Private music trackers carry a lot of FLAC torrents. Other than that, you can buy the physical CD and rip it to your computer in FLAC.

Albums can vary from 250mb to as much as 800mb. (There are probably bigger files, but those are most likely compilations, not albums.)

Typically, it goes something like this...
Vinyl offers, without a doubt, the best sounding music. Next to that is CD, and then MP3. Typically, if you are looking for music that you can store on your computer, then you will want to look for music in FLAC. However, you need to be concerned with a few issues when looking for FLAC music. First of all, music can be ripped from Vinyl and converted into FLAC. This is usually the best option, but there are many different ways of doing this and the sound quality will definitely vary depending on what type of equipment the ripper has. Its generally best to find someone with a good ripping method and top of the line audio equipment for ripping the vinyl. Vinyl Flac has a much larger bit rate than cd flac, and thus the files are much larger. Another, very close to Vinyl quality, form of FLAC can be rips from a DVD-A (or DVD-Audio) dvd, where the files also have a very high bit rate and can be either 2ch or 5.1ch audio. DVD Flac rips can also be from regular DVDs where the audio track was separated from the video track and converted into FLAC. Usually this is either similar to DVD-A quality, but may be CD quality. FLAC music can also be converted from .wav files, or the files found on audio CDs. The method for ripping CDs can also vary by user, so its important to find FLAC music that has a log file included, or some kind of file detailing the ripping methods and the accuracy of the rip. The one thing that you should look out for is transcodes. Trascoding happens when someone takes anything other than the original, or lossless source, such as a lossy format(MP3) and converts it to FLAC. After a lossless track has been converted into lossy format, it cannot be converted back into a lossless format.
