Default FPS Drop using USB Headset?

I have onboard audio in my current rig (SoundMax). I have speakers hooked up in the green port. I usually listen to that. Recently, I decided to enhance my gaming experience furthur by getting a headset (Logitech Premium 350 USB Headset). Now, since the sound has to be decoded or whatnot through the sound card and then passed over to the USB port, would this use a noticeable amount of CPU power, causing the FPS to drop?

I am pretty sure you won't notice the difference, that is if it even effects it.

So far I haven't noticed, but that's because I have vertical sync on.

No, when you use a USB headset, it is a different device. You are no longer using the sound on your motherboard, you are using the USB headset. It has it's own little sound card.

and by the way, you problably won't see any "enhancement" in your gaming, USB headsets don't sound much better than onboard.

Enchancement is that now I can chat with people.

I never knew that the USB Headset had its own sound card in it. Makes sense when I think about it

Oh, well that makes sense then. Though you could have just gotten a normal headset with a microphone and plugged it into your onboard. pink is for the microphone.

But I still wanted speakers to play and not plugging in and pulling out (hehe) the wires all the time. I have it configured so that Steam uses the Logitech USB and everything else uses the speakers

Well then, alternatively you could have gotten a sound card and hooked a normal headset up to that and had steam use that sound card, and everything else use onboard...

but if you don't care about sound quality that USB headset should be fine for you. Personally I can't even play games anymore if I don't have a good sound card.

Sound quality isn't much of an issue for me. Aslong as it plays decent, I'm happy.
