Hey guys.
Just bought myself a set of Beyerdynamic DTX800's from Headphones.com.au (Amazing website. Marcus wrote the book on customer service, i swear). I had a hard time getting any good reviews or info on these before i purchased, so i knew i needed to make a thread about these amazing headphones. First we have some eye-candy. A review will follow in the next post: ![]() Stock standard Australia Post envelope. Not the bubble protective one, which i was a bit dissapointed by, but the headphones were unharmed. ![]() Headphones were wrapped in some cardboard. I guess it helps to protect the package during shipping? ![]() Huzzah! Here we can actually see the headphones for the first time. ![]() Beyerdynamic indeed. ![]() DTX800 indeed. ![]() These headphones will lay flat, like so, which is pretty handy for traveling. ![]() Nice logo on the earcups. Remember, these are open cans. ![]() Just an eye-candy shot of them lying on their box. ![]() If you can see it, there's a small screw under the arm of each ear, i assume so you can undo the headphones for repairs mods etc. ![]() Plastic adjustment system. At first i was a little wary, but it seems to work fine. Nice solid 'click' as you go down each notch. ![]() The 3.5mm jack. I really like how they used a 3.5mm jack with a 6.3mm adapter, rather then the other way around. ![]() The 6.3mm adapter ![]() The 6.3mm adapter screws onto the 3.5mm jack, which is always good so you dont bend anything if your doing something silly :P ![]() Just a photo of the cord. I was pleasantly surprised with how thick and sturdy the cord was.

Review:
Please note this is my first real 'audiophile' purchase. And i am running these from an onboard source, so it will definitely get better when my X-fi gets here. Specs: * Model number: DTX800 * Weight: 190g * Impedance: 32ohm * Sensitivity: 107 dB * Open/Closed: Open * Transducer type: Dynamic * Ear Coupling: Circumaural * Frequency response: 10 - 22,000 Hz * Cable length: 3m These headphones are comfy. Let me say that first and foremost. I wear glasses, and these are still stupidly comfortable. I honestly think in about 4 hours when the missus gets here im going to forget im wearing these, go to answer the dorrs and ruin them. I was a little concerned when i first opened the packaging and found a squishy plastic sort of stuff under the headband, but because these headphones weigh so little, it was more than sufficient for comfort. Sound quality (remembering my onboard source) was very, very impressive. I was almost going to buy some Sennheiser HD555's because i thought they sounded good. The DTX800's are so, so much better. The HD555's look nicer, i'll give them that, but the DTX800 sound much warmer, and you can hear everything much more clearly, where the HD555's had a little too much muddiness for my liking. I just finished listening to Virtual Haircut (If you havent listened to it, google it right now and listen to it) and the difference to my old Behringer HPS3000's was huge. The soundstage was pretty damn impressive. It really did sound like i had people moving around me. I was recommended these headphones because my main use was gaming, and i have not been disappointed. I tested them with Dead Space first and the depth of the sound was amazing. The game has jumped up 3 points in my gameplay book just because it's so much more immersive with good headphones. One of the biggest differences i noticed was the sounds appearing over my left and right shoulder. With my Behringer and even my (I'm actually ashamed to admit this) eFX 5.1 channel surround sound headset the sounds always seemed to come from the left and right simultaneously, where with my new DTX800's i can actually hear a distinct sound over one shoulder causing me to whip around to check if anyone is about to come at me from behind. All in all, an amazing headset. 9/10. Pro's: Great sound Comfy Light Nice long and thick cord Not too pricey on the scale of headphones Con's: Only squishy plastic under the headband Fair amount of leakage Cord could be too long for you if your PC is close to you (3m) If you have any specific questions or pictures you want, feel free to shoot me a PM. Thanks for reading, hope it helped. Aural Orgasm!

Yeah, its pretty damn cool.
Funny thing is that it sounds better with my headphones than it does on my 5.1 channel surround sound speakers

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Binaural_recording Alot more examples here: http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f9/leg...-links-223165/ Anyway, welcome to the Beyerdynamic club. I'm glad someone's seeing past the HD555 hype! Anyway, for the American folk, they are $90 USD. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000F2BLQK/...g=cnet-1077-20 (The Amazon reviews are a bit screwed as it's talking about the DTX50 earphones for some reasons and not the full-size DTX800)

You wont regret it.
They do feel a little funny when you first put them on, but once the plastic tabs have stretched out a bit they're so very very comfy. And they kick ass for gaming.
