Default Beyerdynamic Dt770 Pro?

Hey I was going to pick these up from a Head-fi member for around $140. I wanted to know what some of you audiophiles thought of these headphones? I have been reading some reviews on it, but asking here wouldn't hurt.

Thanks!

PS. I don't have an amp at the moment, just a sound card. I will mostly be using these for movies/music. Very little gaming.

I have never heard them. But FWIR that sounds like a pretty good deal. Most people seem to think they're a great all around phone. Plus, you can always get them upgraded to a pair of Headphile Darth Beyers in the future.

Headphones are really such a unique sound it depends on what you like. I have found the DT770's to not really fit my music tastes. I enjoy listening to all music, but how I test audio equipment is playing back a high def audio classical recording. Not HD like 320k mp3, we're talking DVD-Audio. If it can't reproduce the sound like I'm expecting then I avoid them.

The DT770's are a bit heavy on the bass as I remember, and somewhat muddy compared to my Grado SR325i's. They sort of my reference headphone because I have so many hours on them. In short, if you enjoy bass as I do not, you may love them. Something can be said for their comfort ((I wish Grado would listen)). I wore them for an hour or more and never did I feel like I was wearing a headphone. Any more questions, feel free to ask.

Testing a pair of close headphones with classical music is not exactly fair. Might as well judge a pair of AKG 701s for how well the reproduce drum N bass.

I do not have any personal experience with them, but people say they are heavy on the bass side and can really benefit from an amp.

A high-output card (Xonar STX, for example), will do the job at a more reasonable price than an amp IMO. Unless you have $300 or $400 to spend on amplification.

they are a good choice, but you're overpaying for used cans. I've purchased them brand new for $125/pr before. You can frequently find them on sale for $175ish. For $140 they better be mint, with box and paperwork used for only a few hours.

Aside from that not bad. They sound ok unamped, but you really need an amp.

I found that to really sound their best they needed a better cable and some beyer leather earpads. Once I swapped those out they were the best gaming cans I've used period. Bass was still a little much for my tastes, but the mods make them killer gaming headphones and listenable for music.
