I will agree that the RX700 is more balanced. No matter how hard I tried to burn in the RX900, whenever the bass notes were played, the rest of the music gets drowned out and I'm just left with a bunch of boomy headshaking. I do own both headphones and will say the RX700 is better for listening but the RX900 is better for comfort. The RX900 also has a tendency to be harsh with cymbals and S-vocals which I find to be very unattractive. The RX700 is probably one of the best headphones under $100 and I would highly recommend that you get it. However, do not be surprised if the clarity is underwhelming because for 35 USD, it can only do so much (but still does it better than most other headphones in its price range).

Caraboose, I'd tell you to look into the Grado line, and see what you can afford there, and try to avoid the igrado line. or the xxxi series

I might just settle with a pair of RX900 and move on with life.. Since I doubt it's worth me really caring a great deal.

ATH-AD500's.. they sound great and after a burn in are close the same as the ATH-AD700's. I love my AD500's
