hi everybody.
i'm so lost and i can't find a solution to this riddle. I just bought the new LCD in my rig and i ordered the XBOX360 VGA cable couple of days ago and it will arrive on Wednesday. Now i was going to buy the Gigabyte SPDIF input port so i would connect it to my xbox VGA cable though an optical cable. and after researching on google i found that it will not work. as the optical input will only give 2 channels and will not decode real surround. so i was looking for the cheapest possible solution to connect the xbox 360 to my xbox so it can decode the sound and send it as true surround to my 5.1 creative speakers. I will really appreciate your help everybody. Thanks

this is what i did but it only has one problem... delay but its like 1/4 sec but what eva if u get rid of it tell me. get the red and white av to male 3.5mm and connect it to the blue line in port on the back of ur pc, then download audiacy i thinks thats how u spell it, then install it , turn it on and select line-in import for recording and u should be able to hear your xbox through ur 5.1
with the right drivers that can chnge 2.1 to 5.1 yay

U have a few options mate:
__________________1.Get a new/spare AV receiver with optical input(most should easily handle 5.1 channel but the cost makes it a highly unlikely option). 2.Get the Creative DDTS Decoder with Optical Inputs and many other options like Coaxial/analog inputs(but hard to find since they discontinued it couple years ago).Try Ebay and u might get lucky. 3.Z5500...nuff said. One of the reasons i am unwilling to upgrade from these is their versatile connectivity.

For true surround with the 360 you have to have optical inputs.
Best suggestion is Z5500s. I have them, they are perfect for the job.

Perhaps I can shed some light on your situation.
![]() First of all, to have your soundcard decode 5.1 audio over a S/PDIF connection is has to have a Dolby Digital/DTS lurking onboard. Not an encoder so rushing out and buying a card that has Dolby Digital Live or something on it is not going to help your situation. As it stands, there are no longer cards on the market that actually come with the ability to decode 5.1 over an optical/coax cable. A lot of cards come with an optical input, and it is literally just either for 2 channel or as a pass-through and the soundcard completely ignores the audio. Creative's older range of cards on the other hand could do exactly what you want. I believe the Audigy 2zs could do it and so could the first batch of X-Fi cards - and by first batch I literally mean the initial release cards. There were 4 of them. The Xtreme Music, the Platinum, the Fatal1ty one and the Elite Pro. Back in the day my dad knew I was after a new soundcard and was good enough to get me an X-Fi Platinum upon release for Christmas and it has the ability to actually decode 5.1 audio over a S/PDIF input connection and map it out correctly to the 5.1 speakers. I still have it actually in working condition, I'm just waiting till I get 35 rep then I can flog it here. ![]() As it stands, nothing (that I know of) can decode a 5.1 S/PDIF signal in hardware and I've been unable to find any software out there that can do the job. At present your best bet would be to spash out on a hardware decoder. Sadly the best bang for your buck at present is the Logitech Z5500 and while they are good, I get the feeling you were on a budget. But then saying that the Z5500 decoder always sounds somewhat flat. When using the onboard decoder on my X-Fi before I bought my Z5500s, the sound was incredibly deep and crisp, so I mean if you can put your hands on one you'll be laughing. The other alternative as stated earlier, is use either the 2 channel input or use the line-in on your soundcard, that way you can have your PC upmix it into 5.1 on the fly. It won't be true 5.1 but it's certainly a start. Hope that helps.
