Default Sennheiser 205's or 202's?

Hey guys, I'm debating on whether to get the Sennheiser 205's or the 202's. I've tried the 205's and they are alright but the bass is a bit too low for my tastes but the normal sound is very crisp. Should I get the 202's instead because of their bass or stick with the 205's?

The 202's are "bassy" indeed, some may even consider their sound muddy. If you play a lot of FPS games stick with the crisper sounding 205's as they'll help you out in the long run.

I was wondering the same thing, and talking to a few people in chat they suggested the HD202's. I was about to buy them, but I started to post a thread but saw this, and decided to just bump this up.

I was also considering the HD201's in addition to the 202's and 205's.

I don't know about the OP, but I listen to rock music (mostly classic rock and alternative), and ska-punk. I also play games like CS:S, TF2, BF2, etc, although I may use my headset more for gaming since it has a mic on it.

Anyways, did the people in chat tell me right? Would the HD202's be the best choice?

(Not to derail the thread in case the OP was only wanting Sennheisers, but if there's another suggestion in the same price range, then I'm open to those. I'm not strict to Sennheiser or anything, but I hear they're good)

Well the HD201's bass is clearly defined but mild compared to the HD202's by default. You'd probably find it easier to distinguish footsteps with the HD201 and they do have a very nice overall sound but if you're a fan of bass that makes one's pants drop remove the HD201's from your list of considerations.

Well I like bass, but if it's overpowering and will make it sound BAD then that's a negative. But I usually turn up bass a little bit when I can (not a ton though).

I probably shouldn't have even mentioned games. I'd prefer to get a good headset for music, and I'm sure it will be good enough for games. But like I said, I'll probably use this headset I have now for games since it has a microphone. Plus, I don't think it would make *that* much a different with footsteps, at least in CSS (I play CSS most). You can hear footsteps pretty clearly in CSS.

What would be the best for the rock music I mentioned earlier?

By the way, these are what I've been using:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16826105209

I got them for free from playing the Microsoft Club.Live games

Well my music tastes are rap, r&b, and alternative. As for the budget, I don't really have one but the 202's, 201's, and 205's are the only headphones I can choose from. But all in all, I guess I would like a good balance in sound, a good amount of bass but I would like clarity.

Just what I'm looking for. A nice clear sound that will be good for listening to music on my comp and my Zune

I bought the HD201s after hearing the 202s were muddy and less crisp than the 201s. So far they are performing excellently and are a lot more comfortable than I thought they would be. Don't know anything about the 205s, sorry
