Hi, I've been looking around for a gaming headset with a mic. I want it to be cheap as possible with decent sound quality from the set as well as the microphone. It also has to be comfortable. Thanks for your help. Keep it as low budget as possible with a link please.

Whatever your budget is I recommend staying away from a headset with a built in microphone. Instead get a pair of nice headphones and a Zalman clip on mic. You will get better sound and mic quality for the price.
Also, please for the love of god do not get one of those "surround" headphones. They are terrible, have shoddy sound quality and are overpriced. A pair of nice stereo headphones will be the best solution in almost every situation.

There are some good "surround" headphones with only one driver in each cup. The Logitech G35's sound beautiful and have a cinematic feel. The surround is fantastic and there's only one 40 mm driver in each ear. But the above posters are right, go for a headset with a single speaker in each earcup. Why? Those surround sound simulators with multiple speakers on each ear sound uneven and choppy. For instance, many surround sound headsets have one speaker for the front, one for the back, and for the center, as well as a "subwoofer." What happens with this setup is that the back speakers are smaller than the front and center. Each speaker has it's own tone. I noticed while trying out a headset like this, when you hear footsteps in COD4 coming from the front it sounds deep and real. But if you turn around, the sound abruptly switches to the rear speakers which make the footsteps sound like the guy is wearing clanky metal boots. They sounded tinny compared to the front drivers. This is how many surround headsets are, so definitely go with one that says "simulated" or "virtual" surround sound, because you know that the driver is designed to accentuate certain channels of that single speaker to make sound feel like it's coming from whichever direction.
I personally own a headset called the Teknmotion Pulsar SX, I got it for 35 bucks on Newegg but now it's 55. Great set of headphones. Also, the edimensional Audio FX 5+1 sound great. Of course, the Logitech G35's sound wonderful too. There's plenty other headsets that aren't specifically designed for gaming out there that sound great in games. |

That seems ridiculously low to me. In Australian shops those headphones go for about $50 (US$40). So for that price they are amazing!
To the OP, do you plan to listen to music too?

Logitech G35 is $130 on Newegg, you could get HD555 for the SAME price which are 100 times better. G35, Razer Megalodon, ect = Overpriced piece of crap

Yeah, but even with some serious EQ the AD700s will lack bass - they just don't have it in them. That's why I would recommend the HD555s for this particular situation.
