As for the jack on your headphones, you should absolutely not use it, as there will be lots of electrical interference coming from the speaker's electronics. Instead, plug the headphones into the back panel of your computer for maximum quality.

There are still plenty of closed headphones that are great for gaming, but they cost a lot. The only cheap ones I can think of are JVC RX700 and RX900. I would actually take these for gaming over a pair of HD555 anyday.
The Audio Technica A700/A900 are also good for gaming but the AD700 is way better.

medusa 5.1 = garbage vs any decent stereo headset.
i had several medusa pro gamer headsets in different revisions back in germany, the quality of the headsets is very good, but they dont sound anything as good as my Sennheiser HD 555's that i purchased about 1 month ago. The second you slam anything but 5.1 on a medusa is the second you realise that the headset is a piece of trash for regular usage. so anyone recommending these sets for gaming with the hd555 / ad700 being affordable right now, should really order a sennheiser or audio technika to do a LIVE comparison. guess what, the stereo sets will come out on top in every aspect. so my 2 cents would go to the people not to waste their money on speed link, they may have the shiny and blinky "gamers are sponsored by us" look, but they sound like poop

Surround headsets are a gimmick, plain and simple. The only people who praise them don't know what they're missing, and don't want to believe they just wasted $60 on a surround headset.

It's okay, man. We can't change the fact that people are ignorant. Let them be ignorant and figure it out themselves once their high priced, low-quality headset breaks. Then we can point, laugh and say, "I told you so!"
To the people who keep recommending the gaming headsets, keep doing so. Learn by failure.

If its worth anything I got my ATH-A700 yesterday and they sound AMAZING even with just onboard (today I get my prelude and other goodies). So I'm really looking for an increase in quality there. But I would suggest getting the ATH-AD700 if you're doing gaming only, I game + listen to music + watch movies. Basically I'm at my PC all day unless i'm at school and working so the ATH-A700s will serve me well.
__________________Put it to you this way, I have realtek for my onboard atm and it doesn't even go as loud as my prelude will. My family were yelling at me, whistling for me to come to dinner (no i'm not a dog! lol) and I couldn't hear one bit of it, just very nice, crisp, clear audio. But when I get my prelude and mic today I'll be doing some gaming and see how well they work then. I'll have a review up as well by the end of the week. ATH-A700 = Closed Headphones http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16826402012 ATH-AD700 = Open Headphones http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...2014&Tpk=AD700 They're massive, but it feels like a huge pillow on your head. And don't be turned away by the lining of the A700s, they're very soft.
