Default Audigy 2 microphone input issue

I'm having a hell of a time this this Audigy 2 card. I have my headset plugged into the included front panel but the default microphone input is the card. I can change the input in the control panel to the front panel but windows changes it back to the card automatically. I have nothing plugged into the card directly. When the input is change to the front panel everything works normally. I've tried uninstalling an reinstalling the drivers with no luck. Using winxp 32 bit. Any ideas?

There is no 'Set as default' option for the front panel mic input? Or does xp just set the card input as default again upon restart?

Yah exactly, upon restart XP resets the input to the card. I can't seem to find a set default option anywhere. Is there a registry key I can modify?
