I have a Creative Soundblaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Pro Series sound card, a Logitech Z-5500 5.1 setup, and a guitar/amp. I want to run my guitar and amp into my PC through my line-in cable, and it works, despite the sound only coming out of just the front left speaker. I also have Guitar Rig 4, and Fruity Loops 9, which I tried to use for my guitar and amp.
So I downloaded the ASIO4All drivers, because Line-In on Guitar Rig made this terrible sound, and Fruity Loops doesn't detect any inputs with "Primary Sound Driver" (Line-In is not accessible). Also, my sound card came with Creative ASIO software/drivers, but for some ridiculous reason, I can't select any inputs. I run Guitar Rig and Fruity Loops again, and select the ASIO4All drivers, and lo and behold, they work. However, ASIO4All specifically kills the sound other applications use unless they are using a different piece of hardware (sound card), as it's designed to do so. My friend uses it, and she can use other programs with sound, and plays her cello and guitar over voice chat with Line-In, and Fruity Loops/Guitar Rig with ASIO4All. I'm on Windows 7, and she's on Windows XP. I heard Windows Vista/7 was garbage when it comes to ASIO drivers, so I'm hoping there's a workaround that doesn't require me to dual-boot or run a virtual XP system. This wouldn't be an issue if I didn't want to play music through Winamp while playing guitar, or over voice chat with friends in SWG. I can run Line-In for SWG, but then I can't use Guitar Rig/FL for effects and stuff, and it only comes out of one speaker, producing a sub-par audio quality, while ASIO4All in FL gives me a wonderful 5.1 epic guitar sound. An ASIO driver that works with other audio applications or a fix for Creative's lack of inputs, or a workaround for ASIO4All's mute function is basically what I'm asking for help with.

I'm confused, did you have to use ASIO4ALL because your Creative ASIO isn't working? If it does, you should use that (it only works in audio creation mode).

I thought ASIO didn't really do much in Vista / Windows 7. I was told on Head-Fi that the vista/7 architecture was already very efficient and that ASIO really didn't make a difference anymore.
There was a a diagram as well which showed it.

True that, starting with Vista the audio stack is based off WaveRT which theoretically matches the performance of an ASIO setup.

Yeah but you can only use ASIO output in FL Studio. It's kind of gay that way.

I'm using ASIO4All because my Creative ASIO wont let me choose any inputs. And yes, I -need- ASIO for FL Studio and Guitar Rig, or else I get disgusting noises in GR and FL doesn't pick up anything. God forbid software utilizes a decent sound card.

I think its dictated by the soundcard, my X-Fi gamer muted windows when playing ASIO, my Asus doesn't (creative ASIO never worked properly for me anyway). AFAIK you need a multi-client ASIO driver (don't think there are any free ones) to have ASIO from different apps or a soundcard that wont mute windows.

A quick search brings this: http://www.cubase.net/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=101066

That is weird, I just bought an Audigy Platinum EX and I haven't run into any problems using Creative's ASIO drivers.
OH WAIT... Use either the Daniel_K drivers or the other ones, which I'm using myself, but can't remember the name for the life of me. lol
