Xonar STX or Zero DAC?
Okay simple question.
I am getting a Little Dot 1+ as my amp but I am wondering which of these two would be better for quality and in the long run. Asus Xonar STX sound card or Zero DAC? Thanks in advance.

I'd say Zero DAC in my personal choice, a lot more open to mods, easier, portable, you can use it on your laptop and Desktop, it also holds resell value, and there is a nice large market to grab them up used

Wow you made a really good point I never even thought of. Since I am getting a Macbook pro for graduation that is a really good point.

Well I just realized I will need a sound card because my onboard doesn't have optical or coaxial out which is the only inputs for the Zero, any suggestions on that.

do you have a price range, and I thought the Zero DAC did USB... I'm sorry... I'm researching that now... other options for DACs include the E-MU 0404 which does USB, and has an integrated amp... as far as sound cards go, there is the Xtreme Gamer/Music for starters, Prelude, and STX for high end... but it is all dependent on your price range.
alright, I'm correct, kinda. The latest 09 models of the Zero DAC include USB as an option http://cgi.ebay.com/09-NEW-VERSION-Z...item20adeb57a0 So it's still a valid option

I was looking to keep it as cheap as possible and I was leaning towards the Zero over the EMU because everything I had read said the Zero was better. Is there anyways to take onboard and use optical or coaxial? Or could I buy a really cheap sound card with it?

I also have the LD 1+ as my amp, but I have rolled the tubes and op amp, and I have the zero dac (08 version), but its slightly modified with new capacitors, earth HDAM for the op amp and a couple of other adjustments. I use the k601s as my main phone and I really like the sound I get. I have a USB to optical converter I use since I get alot of interference If I run coax from my PC.
