Default What am I missing?

I run direct from my PC's mobo (no sound card) to a audio amp to some decent speakers (including sub) am I really missing anything by not having a discrete sound card?

I don't think there is a HUGE difference unless you're running 5.1//7.1 surround sound speakers; otherwise it's not noticeable (afaik, but I've never tried both).

Make sure you have good speakers too, or again, it will be difficult to gain the extra sound power.

Good news as purchases that end up being not needed don't sit well +rep.

I don't really know where you heard that. Having a good sound card will make just as big of a difference in mono as it will in 7.1.

If you have good speakers, discerning ears and/or if you game you will notice a huge difference with a good sound card.

They are some 3 way 50w desktop speakers (Audiosource) with a sub and the amp is just a RCA bargin (probably didn't cost over 200.00) And I just input my mobos output to one of the external inputs, deffinetly not home theatre quality.
