Default Will this soundcard be better than my on board ?

A local CL is selling one of this: Creative X-Fi Platinum
pretty cheap so i'm tempting to buy it. Anyway, since it's already out for a long time, i'm wondering if it's still better than my onboard on this Gigabyte X58 UD3R? I think the onboard is Realtek HD something.

almost any soundcard is better than onboard especially one of that quality How much ?

edit: it has 24bit dedicated memory on it which will help with the onboard or chipset load/temps

Yes, the hardware on that sound card is going to output higher-fidelity sound at the low/high ranges and has a much higher SNR. Will you notice any difference? That is a question only you can answer.

I'm bargaining w/ him atm so i'll let you know the final price when everything go thru. . It's good to hear that it's better than my onboard which i'm getting tired of its low quality sound.

I don't recommend buying old Creative cards, particularly since the X-Fi cards had a tendency to die as a result of capacitors crapping out.
