Default The ASUS D1 is pathetic.

Actually, I think I blame the software. None of the changes make any difference. I cranked ALL of the frequencies up all the way in the graphic EQ, and it sounds exactly the same as it does when it's flat. So then I put all of those frequencies all the way down, and again it still sounds the same as it does when it's flat.

So, then I clicked on the EQ presets, and I get the same result. Then I clicked on the Movie button, adjusted the EQ, and I got the same thing. Then I tried the Environment stuff. None of that makes any difference either.

Then I tried changing the Environment Size just for fun, but it doesn't make any difference either.

Then I clicked on SVN, but that makes the audio louder and very distorted.

I then tried FlexiBass, but that makes no difference.

To summarize, the software is worthless.

Oh, but here's my favorite part: in order to get the same volume that I had with the XtremeGamer before switching to the D1 just now, I have to crank the D1's volume to about 90%. I don't adjust my speaker volume manually - I use my mouse. heh But with the XtremeGamer, I had it at around 40%, which was actually a little bit too loud for this time of the day where I live.

So I don't get it. This is worthless. Oh, and please don't ask me if everything is set up correctly because I can assure you that it most definitely is. This is my 3rd attempt at installing this. My first attempt was in the official Release Candidate of Windows 7, but ASUS didn't have a 64-bit Windows 7 driver at that time, so I used the latest 64-bit Vista driver and got the same result. And then I tried it again when I noticed that they finally had a 64-bit Windows 7 driver, but I got the same result. But it was still in the official Release Candidate. So I am trying it again because now I have the Retail version of Win7, but yet I'm still getting the same result.

So, in conclusion: do not get this card. The X-Fi Console Launcher is about a billion times better than this Audio Center thing for the Xonar D1. Even if it worked, I think I would still be disappointed. I can just tell.

Disappointing, but good to know nonetheless. I always thought the Xonars were above and beyond X-Fi quality.

Hm, I'm glad I didn't make the purchase of one now.

I held out and got my XtremeMusic for less than half of the price.

Yeah. I'm about to give this thing away as a Freebie. That's pretty much how I feel about this. But meh... I'll just keep it just in case they release a newer driver that actually works for me.

Glad I went with the Forte over the D2. Just out of curiosity, have you tried it with a different OS?

Hmm. Then I wonder if this is related to the nForce chipset.

Oh oops. I could have tried it with 32-bit XP Pro SP2 just to rule out a bad card.

I think I'll reserve that for the next time I need to clean the dust out of my computer. I mean, I'm looking at the bright side: at least my computer is dust-free again.

Wanna trade?

Sucks about your bad luck, they're supposed to be pretty decent sound cards.

When I was considering buying it, I think I had over 20 different people tell me that it would be a huge improvement over the XtremeGamer. A few actually spoke from experience.

So, maybe it's my motherboard.

Hmm, I very much enjoy my D1. Although I went from a old Diamond 7.1 that NCspec gave to me to have some sound until I bought a new one but...

My software works perfect also, I forget what drivers I installed but, I knew I had to use the daniel_k fix for it too work correctly. All my software, EQ etc works fine.

And I was one of the people who said its a good card
