There is a difference between Integrated and Dedicated Sound cards, however this relies on how "Good" your ears are, and the Audio Equipment you're using. I would say that yes, you'll hear the difference after you get yourself a new pair of headphones.

The HD 555 are excellent pair of headphones

Since you said you've never had a sound card before - and for you to jump right to something like the X-Fi XtremeGamer, yeah I'd say you'll probably be blown away by the difference - having been on onboard for years. Very good card for gaming. I owned one, then upgraded to the X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty. Some differences, but practically the same overall. Turn the Crystalizer on, set the output quality to 192KHz / 24-bit, and you'll be good to go. Alot depends on the quality of speakers you're using, too.

For $30, the Xtrememusic is a steal. Works great on windows 7 too. The HT Omega Striker is better for music but would cost you 3 times as much: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...mega%20striker
