Default astro a40 audio + voice via usb?

http://www.astrogaming.com/products/...-Audio-System/

So i'm looking to drop a load of cash for these things and was wondering. Since it offers USB voice and optical audio input (to the mixer), would i have to plug in both USB and optical to play multiplayer games with voice chat? or would the USB be able to support audio in and out.

Also, if USB does support audio in/out, would i be able to get dolby 5.1 digital surround through it or would i have to use optical?

I'd just rather use 1 cable to do it all than both optical and USB. thanks!
