Default About folding, disappointing what I read

Hi guys

Well, I just read this thread from jrabb, and it got me thinking. Maybe you guys could take a few steps to make folding more visible to more of the users here. I have a suggestion that who knows, may help. Every subforum has stickies right? So why don't you guys put a stickie about folding in every single subforum too. More people will see it, and maybe we'll get more people folding. Just a little "Help your fellow man, and the entire world by folding, find out more here", or something like that you know. Maybe in a bold color so it stands out too or something.

Just an idea

Well thats a little overboard. Jrabb's thread wasnt about the lack of folders, it was about the lack of ACTIVE folders. Obviously if they signed up they saw some sort of folding advertisement on here. i say if ya want to help. Put something like "Fold for team 37726" In your sig and link to the main folding thread

Sounds like a great plan. We're in dire need of folders!

This week, I'll have 6 cores folding for ~10 hours a day.

Well FAH already has it's own forum on the index page and also has a sticky in the new members area. Add to this the number of user's whom have it noted in thier signature.

I think that this is suffucient exposure...as memtioned the problem is retainning active folders.

Actually his thread was about the lack of folders and active folders. 24,000+ members, and only 900 even fold at all, past or present. Of those 900, only over 200 active now. So that's 200 out of 24,000. Ya I may put something in my sig too. And ya you're right, if they signed up, then they saw something about it. The thing is, people forget things, hence advertising. And what's overboard about it, would it take up excessive space, or be hard to implement, or hurt someone in any way whatsoever? I don't think so right?

So you have Joe Blow here, he signed up in February, and ya he saw something about folding somewhere blah blah blah, but he didn't bother to click it at the time. Damit he had a problem, and he just wants to get a thread up so you guys can help him! He didn't even know what it was, and dam he has enough things to click on today, thank you very much. Now Joe Blow comes here still after he got his help, but he only goes to the Nvidia forum, he's a gpu freak you see. So he doesn't really go anywhere else in the forum. Now Joe doesn't remember jack about folding, or even remember seeing it really, and he doesn't really pay all that much attention to peoples sigs either. And the index page he doesn't even really look at the first few forums, he just hurriedly scrolls down to his favorite. 1 less folder.

But what if every time Joe went to the nivdia forum, his eyes saw something about this folding thing as they scanned by the stickies? Maybe after so many visits, he'd go "hmm, now I wonder *** this folding thing is". It's advertising nothing more, how huge would pepsi be now if they only had 1 commercial in 1952 or whenever, and noone ever heard from them after that?

I know cause it sorta happened to me. You guys woulda had me folding sooner if I woulda known what it was. I was a member here for a little while, had heard or saw something about, but didn't know what it was, and it was forgotten mostly. Then one day I finally decided to find out about it, and joined the team. Take my suggestion or leave it as you will, but I think it might help myself. Even if it only got another 50 folders, wouldn't it be worth it?

Overexposed? It doesn't even stand out to me really. Ya there's one forum out of many about it, that doesn't visually stand out from anything. I don't know about you, but there's alot of forums in here I don't even look at or in. And there's so much stuff you can't read it all. I see sometimes people with it in their sigs, but that's a very very small percentage of users. Sure doesn't look like it's everywhere to me, far from it.

Do whatever you guys want, but to me, it's not standing out enough. And people don't read everything. I read the general rules sure, but do you ever sit down and read those software agreement things before you click accept? Me either, nor do I look at every link, and read every little thing before I join a forum or something. So, overexposed, I don't know how you figure that one. Out of sight, out of mind. And it's out of sight, almost all the time, in almost every forum. I'm not saying shove it down peoples throats, just to make it so whatever general area you go to, there's something about it when you get there.

Maybe a good idea is for everyone to put something in there sig,

"Fold for the cure and overclock.net #37726"

something like that might remind people to fold.

Sorry but Overexposing folding would be silly. Folding is a great thing to do. However remember that this FORUMS primary objective is to advise and help people with computer issues. Its not actually to do with Folding as its primary purpose at all. IMO the folding side is well advertised so to speak.
