Default Previously posted suggestions and responses - please read before posting a new thread

To help reduce repeat suggestions, I'm going to work on compiling a list of commonly made suggestions as well as the staff responses to those suggestions. We have receive a lot of great suggestions, some of which we've acted upon, some of which are currently on the to do list, and some of which we are not going to act on for a variety of reasons. This list will take some time to compile, and it will be updated periodically. New threads that offer the same suggestions will be closed and linked to this thread.

Suggestions and Responses
  • Suggestion: Increase, decreate, remove, or otherwise change the rep requirement in the marketplace forums. Response: There are no plans to change the rep requirements at this time. We hope to rework the marketplace forums in the future, and the rep requirements will be revisited at that time.
  • Suggestion: Require country codes in marketplace forum thread titles. Response: Once the current deficiencies in thread titles are addressed, we will consider this. Members need to cooperate with the current thread titling requirement before we will add any additional requirements. Use of country codes is encouraged and welcomed but is not required.
  • Suggestion: Add the ability to search members' system components and profile info. Response: This is planned for a future upgrade.
  • Suggestion: Replace memory and system cooling in system specs with OS and monitor. Response: Done
  • Suggestion: Permit advertising in signatures, profiles, signatures, etc. Response: This violates the TOS and will not be permitted.
  • Suggestion: Tie system specs to individual posts and not have them change. Response: Reference a system name in applicable posts and do not change that system in your profile. When you upgrade or change system, create a new system in your profile to reflect the new gear.
  • Suggestion: Allow thread titles to be quickly searched by keyword and date. Response: This can be accomplished through the options in the advanced search dialog. Select thread title (instead of search entire thread), pick the appropriate date range, enter keywords, and search.
  • Suggestion: Alter the rep system to require staff approval of reps. Response: The amount of work to do this would be staggering, so it would not be practical under our current setup. Members should report posts that show reps for inappropriate purposes.
  • Suggestion: Bring back the FAQ system. Reponse: Reviving the FAQ system in some form is a very high priority. Unfortunately, there is no ETA for this at this time.
  • Suggestion: Get rid of a certain ad because it is annoying or inappropriate. Response: Admin has the ability to selectively block ads. PM him the target url of the ad and a reason why it should be blocked. A description of the ad is not sufficient.
  • Suggestion: Tie the rep system together with the warning/infraction system. Response: Since reps are a loose measure of contributions made to the forum, it would not be appropriate to tie behavior (i.e. warnings and infractions) to the rep system. Reps earned for quality work should not be taken away for any reason.
  • Suggestion: Permit members to delete their own posts or threads. Response: If a member needs a post or thread deleted, use the Report Bad Post feature and request deletion. There are no plans to implement member deletions at this time.

Don't replace memory with monitor, that I don't agree with at all. However replace "case cooling" and eventually "case"

The intention is to replace memory cooling with monitor.

So if the original thread was cosed and the suggestion was listed here does it mean they are on the schedule to be enacted when possible?

And yes, the most logical replacement for system specs is to change Memory Cooling for Monitors... the one should definitely be done IMO...
Emmanuel, Memory would most definitely not be taken off... and memory cooling can fit on the same one unless you have full timings and speed already there.

Great thread!

SUGGESTION TO ALL OF US READING THIS THREAD:

Put a small link on your sig to this thread so we can get more feedback for the Admins to be able to make better judgment when making up their minds for the next batch of upgrades

If the original thread was closed and a link added to this thread, it means the response listed above is the planned action for that particular suggestion. In some cases, it means we are planning to enact the change; in other cases, the suggestion will not be enacted for the reason listed above.

The intention of this thread is to 1) have a running list of common suggestions and our responses to them and 2) give us (the staff) a consistent way to respond to common suggestions to let everyone know our intentions regarding them.
