And I also understand that our "word" just isn't good enough for proof. No worries at all .

My bad transactions that I've had here....it happens unfortunately. I don't even know if the "Case incedent" would really be the shipper's fault either. There's no possible way to tell at all at this point. And unfortunately that's the way things go sometimes . This sort of thing won't discourage me in the future....it just taught me a few lessons. That's all.

Everything here (to me) is a learning experience. That's the way it should be here at the forums. A learning and help place . When something goes wrong, I try my best to learn from it. I hold NO hard feelings towards ANY members who have given me a bad trade. Sometimes it's just not 100% their fault.
Its nice to see a member taking this so well and being mature about it. As you say its never a dead certain that a sale will go 100% smoothly. I am sorry that you had a bad experience though and in your case its very hard to prove who's fault it was. IMO I do not think it was anyones Fault as you say your case may have been nabbed by a loser.

I think the Marketplace on OCN does very well. We are lucky that we do not have many sales that go wrong. The majority of them go with out a hitch and if there is an issue it is usually resolved fairly quickly.

Perhaps in the future the Marketplace will have new features added to make it easier and more enjoyable. Infact we add new features to OCN all the time so its pretty certain there will be changed here and there in the future.

That's nice to hear. And I'd have to agree with you too. I'd say probably 80-85% of the trades in our marketplace go off without a hitch in the first place, and then roughly another 10-15% (the bad ones) get resolved quite quickly. Then there's just a VERY small percentage of ones that just never really get resolved (such as mine)...and it happens.

I for one am looking forward to any changes (for the positive) that might go on in the marketplace. I just wouldn't have any idea what we can do to make it better.

I've had three transactions, here on OCN:
1) Beauty of a deal on a "custom rezy" -prompt payment, prompt delivery! but never got any "trader feedback" from the seller- I left him a +1.

2)Good deal on a WB and pump- great price- great communication! reciprocal positive trader info! all around! (That's where I get my +1 from)

3)Dodgy purchase- 1 item (only $20)
Item took forever to ship- PMs were "Oh- I meant to ship it yesterday, and I'll try to get to it today, or, maybe tomorrow" type.
The upshot was that when I finally received the item, not only was it damaged, and faulty, but it had also been "modded" -which was not mentioned anywhere in the FS thread!
And the real kick in the #%ts- there was an issue with the sellers "rep" and the original FS post was pulled!
- So I could not leave a +/neutral/- vote; and what was especially harsh was that the seller could not leave a Positive trader rating for me paying him and patiently waiting- without splashing a "WARNING- do not trade with mgbpy" all over!
So.... that's my penny's worth!

Just be careful, who you trade with, and don't blame OCN for a members immaturity/selfishness/greed/ etc.

The "insta-ban" I think is a bit hardcore, and as mentioned, leaves little room for legitimate "goofs"; but, I do think some sort of "black-list" would help in addition to the trader rating.

IIRC there has been a 'sticky' posted in the FS section; warning "do not trade with xxxx member -until issues xyz have been resolved"
I know I certainly wouldn't want MY name posted there for "all the world" to see;

I definitely would not want to be on such an ignoble list, and I think that that is the incentive that the OP is looking for- to simply encourage "honest and fair" trade!
It won't get your money back or replace a "less than what I expected and paid for" item! - but- It WILL encourage honest and fair trade!
Cheers ALL

it all comes down to the fact that some members are going to try and scam you, they will find a way to no matter what you do. It sucks, but it happens.

I've made over 100 transactions on OCN and have only had one problem (currently being worked out). I've bought and sold many items from members with zero trader rep, zero rep and members with more trader rep, rep then myself.

You need to have good communication. Don't say you shipped something if you didn't. Don't avoid people for days on end. Good communication and a bit of watchfulness on your side and you shouldn't encounter any problems.

You are right. Both sides must communicate with each other, this is the key to a happy transaction.

I will drink to that

Communications is very important. Without communications it is almost impossible to tell whether you are being scammed or not. I ordered something off here once and it cost me $100+ not sure on the exact amount and anyways, at this moment in time Royal Mail decided to go on strike And the user had not logged on since the the payment. I was starting to get worried after 4 weeks of waiting, thinking maybe I got done over, but all prevailed and he explained he had indeed posted it and it was a busy time in his life. Luckily after 6 weeks of waiting the item turned up. I could just as easily taken up a dispute after my 4 weeks of waiting, but sometimes it takes patience and understanding from the buyer as well as communications from the seller. It is a two way system.

I have only ever been scammed once on OCN. I payed $15 shipped for Doom 3 and it never turned up. After 3 weeks of waiting I decided to contact the member to find he had already been banned. Not sure why, but i didn't bother taking it further. There was no point.

But I am quite shocked to find that some people have been conned and the other user has not been banned. I mean obviously I do not know the full details but if you outright con someone then you deserve a ban, no questions asked. I am not a fan of the insta-ban thing, because like stated the seller could eb going through a difficult time or the package may be lsot in transit.

But if the item never turns up after 6 weeks and the seller cannot provide any receipts then I think it is only fair that they are removed.

Indeed, take Wigsryc for example. We had a successful transaction and I left him trader rating. However he was new to the forum and honestly thought it was a one way process. After PM'ing him and talking him through it he left me a successful rating.

So like stated, communications is never a bad thing. Unless you lose patience and start flaming people, that's not good

Yea, i agree.

Once, THEObz made me a favor and let me send a set of ram from newegg to his address and he was going to ship it to Canada for me. He even offered me that he could pay the shipping himself but i refused. Anyways the guy pays $17 for shiipping. I receive my rams and i was supposed to send him the $17 that day and i forgot. I remembered two weeks later and sent him the money immediately. I felt so emberrased but he understood.

I had so many deals in this forum in 2-3 years and never had a problem. Because i buy things from the peeps that i know. I don't mean friends, they are people i've read their posts and for sale threads. I also check their trader rating if i am not sure about the person and make a search on the topics he opened in the forum and try to see if he is trusted.

My deal on a $2000 rig with CD took maybe 5 mins : )
