Default Item Not Shipped log

I don't see this getting very much approval from the mods because, in theory, rules 17 and 18 of the For Sale section rules along with relevant parts of the ToS should be enough to make this all not a problem. In practice in my experience, they are not enough. Leaving negative feedback isn't enough either, I personally don't want to abandon a sale like that; that basically says "I'm giving you my money in exchange for you getting some negative feedback". I don't blame the mods, as they are not (and should not be) responsible for any negative outcome in a trade. However, 1) the mods shouldn't have to spend their own time on every single dispute, filling their PM boxes and taking their time and 2) this will simply make OCN a better place for all to make online transactions.

It's a simple concept; a list of user names of those who have not shipped an item, maybe even with the paid price next to the username along with the date of course. This seems to be the main cause of a trade dispute here, and I think it's totally ridiculous that members who don't ship something continue to use the forums. Also, not every transaction is through Paypal (money orders are common enough), so an official dispute or claim cannot always be made.

Again, I don't want this list to make OCN responsible for dealing with disputes. I simply want this list to be used as a resource to other buyers. Shouldn't buyers be allowed to know which seller hasn't shipped an item? This will also give sellers a little kick in the butt to ship the darn item. No one wants to be on a bad list.

I have personally paid for items here on OCN totaling about $80 that I have not received. For one of the things, I opened and closed a PP claim, so that was my fault. I closed the claim mostly because this was an OCN member, not some random trader. I figured I could trust the seller. Turns out I could not. That user still frequents OCN.

OCN's marketplace should be more than just a "you didn't get it? too bad" type of deal. I have tried and failed to get sellers banned from transactions (or any action at all for my case), being left with simply no official action and no responses from anybody. Only one user here has ever been restricted, in my memory.

I think trader rating is enough, if I see one negative rep, I will not buy from them at all. I also do not buy from people who just got 35 reps, or if I know the person selling it is generally a rude person. There isn't much you can do if you get ripped off on the internet, thats why I try to check out the persons background on the forums.

That's great for you, but if I just leave negative rep for these transactions I'm missing, I just lost $80. Yeah, what a great outcome. I don't believe you can take them away, either.

I don't see how this is different from the trader rating, if someone didn't ship something to you, then leave negative feedback. Anyone in their right mind will not buy something if that person has negative feedback. This non-shipped list won't bring your $80 back either, or even have prevented you from losing it...and when I said negative rep, I meant negative trader rating feedback.

I do agree that anyone who rips another person off should be banned instantly though...don't even leave room for negative feedback, just ban them.

If I'm missing something here, please try to dumb it down a bit more for me Sometimes I miss obvious points.

I feel your pain. The 1ST of this month I paid $103 for something that I've yet to receive. Negative rep compared to money lost just isn't good enough.

Edit: Instant Ban, much better.

Many people don't use PayPal since you need to be 18 years old to have an account.

PayPal also has a darkside to it. Your Paypal account can be frozen at any time, without advance notice, leaving you without your money for months (if not forever), and there isn't much you can do about it. PayPal has had class-action lawsuits against too. Recently in the beginning of this year PalPay changed the way it does business. Better for them, worse for a buyer or seller. The so called checks/balances of making a good and safer transaction is now limited.

There is a site called www.heatware.com that helps with knowing transactions. If a seller/buyer has an account there, I'm more willing to do business with the person.

Heatware is FREE. It's a great help in the FS/FT market place.

When working with a seller/buyer be sure to negotiate a shipping confirmation and shipping insurance of the goods being dealt with. For only a simple dollar or two it's worth it for the product replacement at the USPS.

It's best to deal with money orders that are from a major national bank or the USPS. Money Orders can be scams too if not checked properly.

I ordered a game from a member here, but it never came. The guy didn't have insurance, but he still refunded the money. We should have a rule to insure all orders $20+

Everyone definitely needs to insure everything they ship thats more than they are willing to cover themselves. If I sell something small, like for instance a multi-meter I just sold, I won't insure it because I can pay that out of pocket and would have no problem refunding it if it got messed up. My laptop that I just sold though...I sold it for $800 and you better believe I insured it for $800. Insurance is not as expensive as most people think. That $800 insurance with DHL only cost me an extra $16.
