Recently, I've seen many threads on the news section that isnt even news - most of these threads being by newish people. Now, Would it be possible to make it so people need a certain amount of rep to post news? As I think this will solve most new people posting things that isnt news.

Just a suggestion.

i think that if anyone finds it helpful you should get rep for it, just as any other post.
the better the find, the more rep.

EDIT: i may have taken your thread wrong, you are saying needing at least x amount of rep to post news?
i still dont think the best idea, if someone new finds something they should be able to post it and get the rep for doing so, also, if something gets posted in the wrong section it is promtly moved to the correct section most of the time.

This has been suggested time and time again and it's never been implemented. But even the regulars will post news that isn't considered news sometimes.

I think you shouldn't be able to recieve rep for posting news. The general consensus from the staff here at OCN is that rep is given for help recieved. News is tech industry related information that 90% of the time is the news post in quote tags with a link to the source, and then people get zillions of reps from people just for posting it. To me it seems like blatent free reps just for finding something interesting on the internet. It might as well be a picture of a kitten.

Well, think of it this way. If you found the information helpful you should rep that person. Why?

  1. The probability of you finding it on your own is extremely low.
  2. A lot of help that people give is based upon googled information to begin with. This just adds a source.
