Default we need a new section. Computer Desk.

we have many craftsmen on here with the skill to do custom builds on computers.
what about a Home Built Custom Desk.

my wife has given me a project to do.
build a custom desk for 2 that includes my xbox and playstation systems.

she came up with the idea after i hooked up the HDTV as a monitor to the computer, the HDTV still has connections for the xbox and playstation.
the 2 computers can share the DSL with the game systems.

so my project is to build a all in one desk game center for 2.

i have yet to figure out how 1 pc and the game units can share a 5.1 sound system.
the network will be easy.
need a design for the desk and over head cabnets.
it is an 8x15 room and she wants it back in 2 corners.

Well, your receiver for your 5.1 sound system should have multiple inputs. That is probably the most I can help you with

that sounds like a big project for you! i would definitely sub it if you made a worklog for it.

about a new section though...there aren't that many people that do mods to a desk or build a desk from scratch that post up worklogs. there won't be enough attention to it will last long enough. you could post a work log in the case mods - general or other hardware mods section. though i'm thinking other hardware mods section wolud be the most appropriate.

Maybe something like Computer Room Items which contains discussions about office/gaming chairs/couches, desk, lamps, surge protectors, cable management, foot massage machine etc etc.

I don't see a need for a new section, the forum already has so many. I would suggest putting it under "Other Hardware Mods"

something like this would be nice to have.
designs, ideas, troubble shoot, because when you think about work space, cable management, air flow, sound system placement, material, tools.

what is the point in building a motor for a hotrod if your just going to use an off the shelf frame.

I'd say for now it'd be best to put it under the other hardware mods of the case mods and cases section. If there is a large enough demand based on posted threads it may be possible for a furniture mods subsection at some future date (but I do not see it happening in the near future unless a lot of people post threads regarding their furniture mods/builds).

Please bear in mind that the listed sections and subsections are based on thread postings regarding that topic. If there are only a handful of threads a year about a given subject then it's not worth it for there to be a section dedicated to that topic; if it were to the point where there is a new thread on a certain topic posted about once a week or more on a regular basis, then it's a lot more likely for it to get it's own (sub)section.

That's going to be a nice desk from the sound of it. Make sure to do a worklog on it, or at least some pics.

I didn't exactly build my own desk, but it wasn't store bought. My wife's grandfather was a godly cabinet builder, and he built all the cabinets, shelves, and tables in our house. I took one of the 2 entertainment centers he built, pulled the top half off, cut out a piece on the bottom, and converted it into a desk. I love it because it is taller than a standard desk. I'm just over 6' and I have a bad back so I hate bending over to reach standard cabinet tops, so this works perfect for me.

Ignore the clutter, I was moving stuff around in my bedroom earlier today and haven't gotten around to cleaning it off yet.

I love woodworking.

I built the desk I'm sitting at right now.

It was actually the first thing I ever built.

I loved it at the time, but looking at it now, I really could have done a much better job.

Anyways, good luck man! I hope it turns out great!
