550Ti, not as bad as people are saying. It's next gen, why would you want to buy into an old series of card

Can any 5850 reach 1200 core on air?
Not sure how much OC headroom the 5850 has; I didn't say the 5850 was better than the 470, but it is a better value; 140 on newegg, 155 on newegg canada after shipping. I know the 6850 overclocks like a beast and considering the sapphire 5850 extreme uses an improved VRM, RAM, and cooler similar to the 6850 I believe it should have some good OC headroom

Yeah ignore that I haven't slept yet and my brain is going into epic fail mode, hence the edit about an hour later.

This post has two of those gpus from Sapphire running 1010 core, but its easily beaten and by quite a fair margin by 470s. One of which is using a reference card with the reference cooler.

Just because it's next gen doesn't mean it's worth buying; at the $150 mark I would quickly take that 5850 over the 550Ti. If I was looking in the $120 range and the 550 was in the $120-130 range, I would buy it; that's probably closer to the value of the card.

550 Ti is slower than a GTX 460 768 MB. They are priced similarly as well.

550 Ti is a waste of money. Some stores price the 550 Ti as much as a GTX 460 1GB, which is much faster.

Are you serious? This is a joke right?

If the OP only wants Nvidia, there are GTX 470s to be had around OCN for around $170 and on the ATI side, there are 5850s being re-released for $130. A 5850 will destroy a GTX 550 in any game.

Lol, I understand that.

Didn't the GTX 4XX scale better than the HD 5XXX for multi GPU setups anyway.

But the 5850 sits between the 460 1GB and 470 performance wise, but cheaper than both, hence why I feel it is the better value

But does it have the features of the 500 series? No.

What features of the 500 series that would make it a better choice than the 460 or a much better choice than a 5770 that can be had for $100?
