Define XL Crossfire concerns

Thread Starter
I really like the look of this case but I'm wary about using it with two 6950s. I also have an i7 950 @ 4.00ghz that I plan to shove in there, though I do have a NH-D14. Do you guys think temperatures will be an issue? Are there any other cases that offer roughly the same looks at the same price point but are better for air cooling?

Thanks!

As far as I know you could remove the hard drive cages so you should be good!

Hd 6950's if you get a referance design blow the exaust air out of the case. So they wouldnt affect temps too much. And as for the cpu as long as you have a rear fan on the case near the cpu you can have the hot air passing from your cpu heat sink and out the back of the case. I think it would be fine. As long as you have a good fan placing temp build up in the case wouldnt cause any concern

Remove the upper chamber 3.5 in drive bays, that should free up airflow from the front 140mm. Populate the top most optional 120mm slot. Upgrade the two front 140mm fans to higher CFM models (Petra Yate Loon Medium 140mm or better) if you need the extra air. There's always the side panel 120mm/140mm slot you could use if necessary to blow right onto the GPU's.

Thanks for the help guys

I've ended up pulling the trigger on this and hope to see it soon. My Armor A90 was a bit garish anyways.

So, I'm dredging up an old topic, but I figure the info might be useful to someone and I couldn't find any dedicated Fractal Design XL threads. I just did a small mod to my Fractal Design XL that has shown some big results. I removed the upper hard drive bay (the one right next to the motherboard), and installed a second intake fan. (The fan is an NZXT 140mm FN-140RB). My idle temps have dropped 5 degrees Celsius on my cpu and gpu. (Across all cores). The fan is definitely a little louder than the stock ones, but appears to move double the air. I have the NZXT fan hooked up to the mobo, and the rest hooked up to the included fan controller. Bigger than the idle temp drop, after a half hour of GPUTool stability test, my peak gpu temps have dropped 10 (!) degrees celsius from 71 to 61. Anyway, hope this information helps future and current Fractal Design XL owners.

Kind of a no brainer... don't have to stack them which it sounds like you're saying. Just replace the front ones with some decent fans. The stock fans are meant to be quiet, not move air.

Don't have to stack what? Sorry I am confused.

Side Question: Have you replaced your fans? If so, to what result?

We should probably start a Define XL Club. It's an awesome case that seems to have a lot of customization options.
