Alienware m18x: which GPU?

Thread Starter
So my family is surprised me with this but they haven't chose the parts. Money is not an issue so which graphics cards should I choose. I am doing sli or Xfire depending on what you guys say so whichever would be the better company I guess nividia or ati. Please give reasons why don't just say it's better.
Thanks as always.
Peace and love,
Box o' lunches

Get the highest gpu if you don't have to pay for it, then sell it and buy some new desktop stuff.

The GTX 485m is the fastest card out there. It is the only card worth the money at that price level, and is definitely worth the price.

I'm sure he could ask his family for a desktop instead. Don't have to go through the hassle of buying and reselling and lose a portion of the money wink.gif

Also, why Alienware when there are better options?

Idk they ordered it through them. I also enjoy the aesthetic appeal. I'm also pretty sure it's the only 18 inch with sli or crossfire available.

That's not really true, the 6970m will trade blows with the GTX485m at roughly half the price.

Go with the 6870M's. I've got a M15X and the GPU cooling is ridiculously bad. Also I really hope you got a good warranty with it. My piece of crap has gone though 1 mobo, 2 CPU's, 2 GPU's, and 5 screens(dead pixels).

I'm buying a cooler for it like a fan stand thing. Yeah I'm getting the highest one 4 year warranty against accidental breakage too. The weight will hopefully make me stronger wink.gif. I have an iPad to take in class notes though so basically it's an ultra portable desktop. My dorm is next to my classes so that shouldn't be an issue.

What about 3D?

I was thinking of sleeping with it. It'll save on the heating bill considering I'll be paying this off for the rest of my life wink.gif.
