Just picked up a cheap air cooler. Need the right second fan..

I have always heard that putting two non matched fans on a cooler is bad news. I would like to find the same fan as it has or find 2 decent ones that will cost me less than the cooler did to put on it

Cooler is the Corsair A50. Got it for $19 because I had some amazon credit left on a gift card!

what fan is on it and where can I get one? are there some chap ones that I can put on it that are pretty quiet and will get the job done? CM sickleflow perhaps?

You could use a Scythe Slipstream and limit the RPM's if noise is an issue.

My last setup had 2 PWM fans with a Y cable plugged in to the board. I wonder if I could do that with a 3 pin fan

If you do that, use the PWR Fan plug as it provides more power. Is there a reason why you can't plug them into separate plugs? Not enough plugs on the board?

If you mean can a 4 pin work with a 3 pin plug, then yes. The grooves on the plug allow for the fan to plug into the appropriate pins regardless.

Plugging two fans into the one socket means they will both run at the same speeds, which is what you want for a cpu cooler.

That can usually be set in the bois Mine are plugged into separate plugs and run at the same speed.

The design of that fan reminds me of my CM 212 fan, and apparently they are very good, a little noisy for my liking though. But that has a lot to do with bearing design, and the CM 212 probably doesn't use the most expensive fan on the market.

If you plug them both into the cpu fan socket then they can both be used through the motherboard auto fan settings, if you use another fan socket (e.g. chassis fan) then you will have to manually set this and it won't run at the same speeds as the auto CPU fan.

If he adds a different fan, then that won't matter. 75% of a 2200 RPM fan isn't the same as 75% of a 3000 RPM fan.

Bought the Viper! We'll see how it is after it gets here! May get a second one later!
