unlocked to a 125w CPU can be very bad for your motherboard

Yes, those mosfet must be pretty hot. Try them with your finger. Can you upload a picture of your system. I thought you had a SFF case, but it seems you have a midtower or a minitower.

Mid-tower, micro atx mobo.

With L3 cache enabled and no OC, HW monitor shows current value/min/max as 95watts exactly.

None of the cords are touching the ram, and the cpu fan cord is resting against the fan, not the heatsink.

You should be able to get to around 3.75ghz at 1.45v with a C3 revision chip.

those mosfet are not heatsinked and it's only 3+1. I don't think it's a good idea to go that far. I think you should be happy to have l3 cache functional.

Assume the Mosfets are the black blocks to the left of the proc with the capacitors around them ? and what did you mean by 3+1 ?

I think I should still get the custom cooler since my temps are so high. With what you said would even a minor OC be viable ?

Wow, I come back 18 hours later to check on your progress and this thread has exploded into awesomeness! Congrats on the L3 unlock. Now OC that CPU-NB, as the memory controller also affects L3 cache speed/latency. And do get another cooler. CM 212+ with stock paste is plenty good.

Hyper 212+ is good, but a GeminiII S would be better for you, that way your mosfet's will be cooled as well.

Yeah, it was a very unexpected surprise, attempted a very minimal OC just to see if I could get a frequency change, I did. Then I reset it back to default. Then I changed some settings to see if anything new would occur, checked CPU-Z and I noticed L3 cache wasn't blanked out.

I already had ACC enabled and the L3 cache didn't turn on, then I enabled Unlock CPU Core and it appeared and I went... what ?

And I just found out my 560 Ti Hawk's arriving tomorrow, 1 day early. But, I no longer trust the full load temps of the proc

I guess I can still game, but I'll have to avoid BF:BC2 since it maxes out my proc on all cores.

Is the lack of temp reading when L3 cache is enabled just a side effect of this unlock ? I find it hard to believe you couldn't monitor core temps on any proc with L3 cache.

http://www.overclock.net/amd-cpus/94...hy-choose.html

read that to see why we are worried about you overclocking on that motherboard with your cpu unlocked to a 125 watt one.

I would relock it till you get a better motherboard. Right now get the hyper212+(if it will fite in ur case) heatsink and overclock your cpu to 3.5ghz or so and make sure your temperatures dont go above 55 degrees c

As for some thermal paste, if there is a Radio Shack or something around you, go pick up some soon and reseat your stock heatsink for the moment with the new paste.(Just put a rice size grain of paste in the middle of the cpu and clamp the heatsink on it)
