Thanks, I agree with a lot of what you are saying. But he already has a Samsung XL30 LED monitor and already has mouse/keyboard/speakers and everything. He just wants a PC because right now he's hooking everything up to an Asus G73JW (not the xl30 cuz it's new just got it 2 days ago, he has a dell st2320l for his notebook setup). So just the machine itself is needed.

One thing he said to me is that he's not afraid of performance because $3000 will definitely give more than enough, but he wants reliable parts and to him this means corsair, intel, asus, etc. He's a little biased on brands but if it makes him happy then why not.

And as for WC, costs are VERY high here so we gave that up... back to H70? haha

Oh yeah and... he wants a black/red colour scheme -_- ... sandy bridge + asus mobo + red colour scheme only leaves one mobo available LOL

as well he wants hyperthreading, i asked why he simply just "cuz it's better"

as you can see, spoiled kid with a lot of cash here

but then again, he's had some really good coop jobs and made some good money himself too

ps...reason he got xl30 is because he hate the bezels on eyefinity setups...

Well in that case, get whatever part he wants, since he sounds like the kind of person who wouldn't be happy unless he got exactly what he wanted to anyways.

Just take noise into consideration and get a good case and quiet/quality PSU for him. I know it certainly annoys the heck out of me when I have to hear that GTX 480 or 5870 spin up in the middle of my game.

My recommendation of the Silverstone FT-02 case still stands. Just get the windowed version if he wants to look at his case. For PSU get either one of the newer Corsairs (AX) or an Enermax. But if you can spare the cash, go for Seasonic as they are the best.

If you're not water cooling, please don't go w/ the 6990. That thing is waay too loud.

My brand preferences:

CPU - Intel

RAM - G.Skill

PSU - Antec (Yes, i have a thermaltake -- which i love -- but from experience of other builds, i'm a fan of Antec. Modular/Multi-rail a must.)

Mobo - Asus

GPU - ATI (price/performance, although it sounds like this chap has money to throw about, so consider Nvidia)

As for harddrive i'd obviously recommend a Samsung, but if you can't get the f3's i guess your best option would be to go WD. Def want at least two in a Raid 0 setup. Perhaps even consider SSD.

I'm not a fanboy by the way, these are just the brands i think are best for the moment. Subject to change, of course.

asus xonar essence st 7.1
corsair ax1200
intel 510 series 240gb
2x wdc blue 1tb WD10EALX (pretty cheap, so chose this over green 2tb)
cm haf x case
asus 12x bluray burner BW-12B1LT/BLK/B/AS
corsair h70
tp link wireless TL-WN722N (just in case)

after sales tax (13%) and some environmental taxes, total comes to about $3400 if aspm with ncix

I like everything except for the case and the cooler.

If the dude drives a c63 AMG get him a lian li tongue.gif

If you have more in the budget you mind as well get him another 6970 for TriFire, i mean if you have 1200W should at least try to use 3/4 of it tongue.gif

I find Nvidia drivers to be a tad more forgiving in terms of drivers for client builds though, I would probably go with SLI 580s.

Oh, and set aside 80 bucks for some yates and a nice fan controller. Just sayin.

TC, you sure yours friend don't want 7.1 system. It is not the soundcard. It is the sound quality for the room that can pimp from 100 to 10k dollar. cool.gif

i hear you man, I have ripjaws x and tp-650 psu personally, but i also had a tight budget

and yes asus mobos....who doesn't like them biggrin.gif

ya i put up the intel 510 series ssd in there, and then just 2x wdc blue 1tb for storage bc it's cheaper than black 2tb (which wouldn't matter for storage blue or black), and much more reliable than green which a green 2tb is not that much cheaper

ya we are discussing right now either gtx 590 or sli 580 since he's still got 600 room to play around with

yes was JUST thinking about the fan controller stuff, great minds think alike! biggrin.gif

i actually recommend zalman 9500a cooler to him but he wants h70, then he will get h70 and case...we looked at a lot of them together and he likes the x best (purely for looks)
