Don't go for an XFX as all of the new boards are not referenced.

I would go for either that you have suggested

The Twin Frozr II has the best cooling solution, however I know that it cannot be unlocked as it's not a reference card. Furthermore, you cannot unlock the DirectCU II either.

tl;dr Neither can be unlocked. TBH, get the MSI one and overclock it. You'll be able to get 6970-like performance from it.

as far as im aware non referenced cards have already been unlocked but are prone to bricking as they do not have a twin bios switch.

if you do unlock the cards make sure you use a modified 6950 bios and not a 6970 bios as the ram timings are different.

I would suggest an MSI 6950 Twin Frozr III it has good cooling and is unlockable. Reference boards are unlockable, non-ref arent. And unlocked 6950 has the same number of shaders like the 6970 but is just underclocked. Have fun bro.

its very hard as some gpu manufacturers still use old pictures.. anyways the referenced cards have AMD near the gold pcie connections a duel bios switch (very small nr crossfire connections) and they have a black metal backplate instead of showing the exposed PCB
