I think I was pretty careful about it.

It could have just been unlucky. It happens, the paste may have funk'd out. Or maybe bad paste although not likely. Doesn't hurt to reseat it anyways.
Also, try using atleast 2 programs to read the temps once booted in. Just wanna see how they compare.
And 30C when booted in isn't really that bad.

i wouldnt trust that screen AT ALL.

My SB rig shows like 48C idle in the BIOS, but in windows its actually running at 27-31C. Get into windows and check w/ real temp before going nuts reseating it.

Sounds like there's just a sensor problem, tbh. I'm willing to bet if you went and grabbed the stock HSF, you'd get the exact same temps. Maybe even higher.

There's:

CHA_FAN
OPT_FAN

or do you mean I should connect it to the PSU (through an adapter)?

plug it in to CHA_FAN it's basically the chassie fan connector so all it does it run at the highest output constantly which is what corsair want you to do

Doesn't sound like a sensor problem to me. OS reads it lower then BIOS, which is 100% normal. The temps aren't jumping all over the place. The cpu isn't randomly throttling, I assume. Generally when the sensor is the problem, the temps are inconsistent from my experience.

Thread Starter
Core Temp is reporting 22c while browsing these forums.
Oddly enough the CPU will flake out around 54c (when it should handle 65c) while overclocking.

Yet the BIOS would be reading 39c.

These are both supposedly for the CPU temp reading.

Now if I fed the CPU 1.45v at 4.0 GHz I'd get well over 65c load and 50c-ish idle.

while in bios isn't it kind of like saying the CPU is under 80% load? From what I know checking idle temps in bios is moot. If you want to check if your idles are high do it in windows. 47c under load is pretty decent, and I have a feeling that under 100% load it will be around 53c.

Well 22C is great. Can you confirm it with another monitoring program?
As for the cpu flaking out... don't quote me on this. Trying to remember but isn't that cpu supposed to not go above 62C? So maybe it throttles in high 50s? Not sure though.

Except you can easily turn off any kind of automatic fan control in the BIOS, as we explained several times in this thread.

yeah bios doesn't downclock it and it runs partially under load. Don't know if it's 80% or not though. Definitely monitor temps from in OS.
