    I Know A Better Deal!

Thread Starter
I'm back on the Green biggrin.gif Team and I need a GPU like yesterday. I'm going GPU shopping this evening but need some confirmation regarding this deal. Was going to buy the 560ti but since vram is becoming an essential necessity, I've been looking for deals on the GTX 480 and I've found the Zotac GTX 480 Amped! Hope you all can follow this adventure.

For those who don't know, MicroCenter will price match TigerDirect/CompUSA and will beat their price by 5%!

TigerDirect/CompUSA is selling the 480 Amped! for $319.99

Apply MicroCenter 5% off...now it's $304 specool.gif

Apply the tax...now it's $333.64 thinking.gif (actually cheaper than EVGA/Zotac GTX 570 from NewEgg)

Apply MicroCenter $40 rebate...$293.64

I know I'm spending way more than I want to now but that rebate is making this into a sweet deal. Well, what do you all think? Should I jump all over this or do you know of a better deal ?

Only dealing with EVGA/Zotac (preferred), ASUS, & MSI cool.gif+Rep to those who can find a better deal than this thumb.gif

If you can get a GTX480 cheaper than a GTX570, there's really no reason to get a 570 imo unless you want a slightly cooler, lower wattage card.

The GTX480 is just as fast, faster in some cases due to the higher amount of RAM. Just it runs abit hotter.

But the GTX480 also doesn't have crappy VRMs.

Wow. That Amped 480 was over 500 bucks less than a year ago biggrin.gif

I'd take the 480 personally. Performance is roughly equal and it does have a higher power draw with more heat, but the 480s don't have the VRM concerns of the 570s and come with a bit of extra VRAM. Fair trade off imo.

edit: ninja'd on every point I made. ninja.gif

The 480 is def gonna be burning some wattage as well as producing alot of heat. But if ur cool w/ that then go w/ the 480 I guess. If you can spare more for a 570 then I'd def either get the MSI Twin Frozr III edition or the ASUS Direct CU II (my personal choice would be one of these over the 480 all day lol).

Newegg has a 570 for $305 - $15 (mail in) rebate and free shipping

Cheapest, I'd get that
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127568&cm_re=gtx570-_-14-127-568-_-Product

I think the big question between the two cards is do you want a gigantic cooler, might prevent future SLI, which might be necessary with future games coming out

The Amped! edition has that Zalman cooler so it will be quieter than the blower fan. If you can deal with a triple slot cooler and higher power consumption, the 480 may be a good option.

A Zotac GTX480 AMP is no brainer there..thumb.gif

A better card for sure..

It runs cool, faster than GTX570 clock per clock, has more onboard RAM and has no issues with VRM..

I have stock cooled Zotac GTX 480 and it does 850/1025MHz w/ 1075mV..

With a custom fan profile never hits 85C in Games,3DMark 11,Heaven etc..

CHEERS..

Yup, I have 2 reference cards. If a card fails, you'll have to RMA it. It probably was a bad batch. Lots of people read the "have you killed a 570" thread and think all 570's just blow up upon powering up. Not quite the case with most.
