Exiled Yank in the UK... - Page 2

Nice. Only been over for a few months but it's nice around here. Walking distance to the Brunel, can see the County Ground from my front drive. Digging this weather too. I'm originally from North Carolina and can't stand the temps/humidity in the summer, definitely loving it.

One thing I'm definitely not digging... The Magic Roundabout. WTH??? Seriously? The face in my avatar is probably very close to the face I pulled first time I tried driving though it.

So.. I just googled "swindon magic roundabout" and I got this.

Seriously? Who the hell designed that?

Mate, easy! I drive across that every day to get to my GF's (well, before I moved to London on weekdays). You just got to learn it. You can tell tourists because they go all the way around the outside. Pros go through the middle

But, seriously magic-roundabout is real good fun. I'm not worried of scraping my Corsa either

I have to say it does look quite fun actually. As though it'd make a good circuit when the roads are clear. I still can't see why they didn't just make it one large roundabout though.

Because there are so many junctions coming converging, having a big junction would slow down traffic. There are 5-6 roads converging into the centre and the football ground is just out of site. You'll note the middle round-about is actually the wrong way round, so you go round it anti-clockwise as opposed to clockwise.

But, it's easy once you learn. You see so many worried tourists though

98uk has a valid point. You'd be surprised at how much it alleviates traffic pressure even on matchdays, and once you get used to it, it is rather simple to traverse, just have to remember who yields to whom. The middle roundabout is the wierd part as it goes the other way but once you get it it's like riding a bike.

I see it just about every day as well now and it's no biggy anymore.
