Get it done however you need to get it done, I have no sympathy for a guilty party. Moreover, this may shed light on the reasons they collected the data, which could get to the root of the issue.
The root of the issue is simple. They want absolute control and more information about the consumer than the consumer could possibly get on them. They think that by knowing everything about the consumer that will make it possible for them to have absolute control over what a consumer buys. Data mining is booming and I don't see that it's going to burst anytime soon. The US really has created a new environment to keep businesses here and that's giving them more rights whether written into law or implied over the consumer. The sad part is that this lopsided information will likely destroy the last vestiges of capitalism in the US if it's allowed to continue to its fullest.

I think you're blowing this out of proportion
If anything, the only reason this info is for is advertisement or support. I know AT&T's app collects GPS and cell tower data whenever you have problems with data or dropped calls for example. Now, I of course have no proof that this is all it's used for and I'm sure there is more but conspiracy theories and Big Brother is a bit exaggerated - I mean, do you really think they're using this to track people's lives with this file? They can already do that if they wanted to with cell tower bouncing and things like that.

The outcry of the public against this, and the big fiasco, will get apple to do something. It's only a matter of time. While I particularly disagree with most of the "problems" people are having even though they agreed to it to begin with, I do particularly dislike the whole "single file" thing without any particular protection. I'm fairly certain Apple will fix this, if anything to just please people.

To be honest I'm such a conspiracy theorist I think the only reason things like this even get to be discussed is so they can gauge our level of "accepting" it or another business is upset with them. I think they already track our lives. This file is just the way of messing with us.

And Apple doesn't "fix" things to please people as it simply changes their tolerance of things. Like flash and bluray.

But I'm curious, if you delete the file does that mean you get denied the GPS and related features?

You can't take every service or company to court all at the same time. You file a lawsuit against the company that affected you and it establishes a precedent with which to enforce on other companies.

Apple claims they are the kings of everything: kings of marketing, kings of innovation, kings of products, kings of services... Apple has to take the good with the bad. If you are the most popular name and make a fortune off your name, then your name is the most popular when it comes to negative press too.

oh, and I am surprised to see such lackadaisical attitudes on this thread about privacy. We all know our info is out there, but it doesn't mean we should just wink at violations of basic human privacy in the real world. Thats the kind of mentality that leads to Minority Report style advertisements based of your location and retinal scans.... just sayin...

I love lots of tech, but a giant part of me wishes we never created any of it.

lol messing with us?

I suppose if that's what you think, I can't exactly prove it wrong I just don't think that companies are.... that meticulous.

If there is an outcry about an Apple product in some way, they make an attempt to fix it. Like the whole antenna thing. They didn't "fix" the design per say, but they did let customers refund the phone or even get free bumper cases which are actually really great imo. That's something~

Deleting the file doesn't do anything because it's only a backup of the phone. The file exists on your computer, and deleting it won't change the phone itself. It'll just be replaced when you backup your phone next time.
You can wipe the data within the file with a jailbroken app though called Untrackerd. I dont' think you can delete the file entirely off the phone though if that's what you meant.

The system of those little disclaimers is pretty shady. Companies know no one reads it, and it isn't worded in a way to be easily read. The simple fact that this is known to be a commonly ignored item, and that shady little CYA's are tucked in there that NO ONE is aware of illustrates how they do not serve their purpose.

If Apple (or anyone) cared, they would be more transparent.

Does anyone have one handy to see how the wording is for this? I bet you it doesn't mention explicitly the details, but hand waives a vague explanation about data collection.
