How does one achieve 3D gaming and 3D movies with AMD?

Question is - With AMD cards how does one achieve 3D gaming and 3D movies?

I'm assuming a 120Hz refresh monitor will be required, so that's a given.

Is AMD video cards capable of rendering 3D? I hear they are with third party vendors but don't know what that actually entails.

Thanks in advance for any replies into this.

I'm pretty sure you need nVidia's 3D Vision to game in 3D. There are a few programs that support 3D movie playback with the right monitor.

Google is your friend... AMD HD3D Technology. Also yes it supports games, videos, and pictures in 3D. At the moment there are limited titles that support AMD HD3D, but it's sure to increase.

Supported Video cards and Monitors/Projectors

Actually there are a ton of games that have 3D now. In the latest patch this is just a small list of what was added.

◦Alice Madness Returns
◦Crysis 2 (including multi-player demo)
◦Dead Space 2
◦DeathSpank
◦Dragon Age II
◦Duke Nukem Forever
◦Dungeon Defenders
◦Dungeon Siege III
◦Fable III
◦Faxion Online
◦F.3.A.R.
◦Final Fantasy XIV
◦Homefront (DirectX 9 and DirectX 10)
◦Lego Universe
◦Need for Speed World
◦Portal 2
◦Richard Burns Rally
◦Rift
◦Section 8: Prejudice
◦Shift 2 Unleashed
◦Shogun 2: Total War
◦Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures
◦Test Drive Unlimited 2
◦The Sims Medieval
•Updated the following 3D Vision game profiles
◦MX vs. ATV Reflex
◦Monster Hunter Frontier Benchmark

Even games like World of Warcraft, Batmany Arkum Asylum and any of the newer mainstream titles are all including it now. Games are adding them and it's then up to AMD or Nvidia to provide support for it.

My main reason for asking is I'm upgrading a second rig for my kids. I'd like it to be the new Sapphire board made by the old Asus team with an AMD card running AMD chip so I can have a rig from both. I'd like to also have the 3D option since I'm starting to invest in action 3D movies for my rig and they can watch it on their own as well.
