I've owned GTX 9800 AGP, then AMD 5870 and 6870 prior to this GTX 580. Last four cards.

I've had issues with AMD drivers, last issues I had with my AMD 6870 giving me BSOD I ended up upgrading and switching camps. In their defense they did fix the issue two drivers later.

Nvidia didn't give me problems when I owned or currently own it now.

AMD scale better in crossfire than Nvidia in SLI, credit where credit is due and it's their drivers that get those results.

Both AMD and Nvidia improve gaming with each release. Nvidia being very stable for me and a friend of mine who's convinced me to switch when I was always having issues and he wasn't while using Nvidia.

It will sometimes swing back and forth between drivers. Also each company the drivers vary from card series to card series line it seems. Some cards get more love than others in their driver updates and it mostly depends on the volume of sales which card they work on first or gets attention.

I can't see this thread being productive and will most likely turn out to be ugly before it's over and mostly opinionated.

I have owned every gen except 200 series nvidia since 2000.

My take on drivers is this...

ATI... works right either initially or within an few updates... but gets better until they stop supporting that gen.

nvidia... works initially, but get s better and better until it gets worse but you can run the latest drivers on most anything. And if you really wanna go old tech, their driver selection system is good for that, not necessarily the best drivers but they work.

AMD totally does not support ancient tech. so many times I had to look for outdated tech drivers and saw XXX would work and had to go earlier.

8000 series was a big for instance for me... 1 year after the BSOD issues were 'solved' still couldn't run a 8000 series card in vista. all drivers

So I voted ATI but really it could be nvidia...

I haven't owned an Nvidia card since the 6800 series but I also haven't had many problems (and even then, the problems were minor) with either brand. As such, I'm skeptical of anybody who gives drivers as a reason to buy or not buy either brand. I tend to go with whoever has the best price/performance at the time. Both companies make great cards and you can't go wrong with either.
