A minor upgrade

So I had to order a new PSU today, and decided to pick up some ram as well.

Current: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231193

New: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231303

Right now I am running my ram at.. 8-8-8-24-2T @ 733mhz, so hopefully I will be able to get more out of it. You can see my benchmark thread here.

Also for the curious, this is the PSU I got.. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817371015

Now the waiting game begins..

G.SKILL Ripjaws should be able to do 6-8-6-24 and at best 6-7-6-24. The psu is a good one. I have 2 friends running there system with that psu without a problem.

That's a decent upgrade. You're going to be able to do a lot more with the set of Ripjaws you're going to get. The PSU is also good, too. Have fun and happy overclocking!

I have 4 memory slots on my motherboard. I could run all 8gb, but how would that work for timings? I guess i would have to set all 4 sticks at the lowest timings for each?

You'd be limited by the weakest kit, and the IMC on your CPU. DDR3-1333 is stock according to AMD spec (anything more is an overclock technically). As such, you'd be limited to DDR3-1066 at stock, with anything more being an overclock. Granted you should still be able to handle 733MHz just fine.

So I got my new parts.. and I have had nothing but problems so far. I decided to just use the 2 new sticks of ram, and take out the old ones. I also got the PSU installed, with much better wire management than I had before. When I first booted with the new ram, I just reset ram timings to "auto" since it was late last night. I believe auto set it to 9-9-9. I started messing with some timings this morning, I tried 6-7-6-24-40-2T @ 733mhz but it did not boot. Right now I am running it 7-8-7-24-40-2T @ 733mhz. Unfortunately, the quick benchmark I did on auto and the new settings showed a ~25% drop. I will get some numbers together when I get home tonight. Also, my bios warns me that 1.6V is not a safe voltage. The sticks are stock 1.6V, so I have no need to worry right?

Secondly (and this just may be because I am using RDP right now), but going through AMD overdrive, my GPU voltage and temp are showing as -1. Hopefully that will sort itself out tonight.

Lastly, when turning off the PSU makes a click sound, just one, but very audible. It also makes a slightly softer click when it turns on, but then goes silent. Should I be worried?

Well, the GPU issue was just RDP related, everything is fine when sitting at the computer. The ram.. *sigh*.. I have been testing and playing for a few hours.. and this is the sweet spot I have hit so far.. 7-8-7-24-33-2T (225x16 CPU) @ 750mhz. In reference to performance increases:

Memory Read: 9450 MB/s (+7%)
Memory Write: 8131 MB/s (+9%)
Memory Copy: 8007 MB/s (+5%)
Memory Latency: 47.9 (+7%)

The thing that surprised me the most, I can't boot the ram @ 7-8-7-24-40-2T @ 1.6V (with the CPU at stock). I tried 200x4 and 240x3.3333 and neither would post.

Note: I also upped the NB freq from my benchmark thread from 2200mhz to 2475mhz.

Is this about all I can expect from the ram?

EDIT---

Played around some more and got 240*15 for the CPU and 240*3.33 for the ram (3.6ghz and 800mhz). The ram is running at.. 7-8-7-24-33-1T and the NG freq is 2640mhz. Gonna make sure its stable now.

Mem Read: 10260mb/s (+14%)
Mem Write: 8703mb/s (+16%)
Mem Copy: 8521mb/s (+11%)
Latency: 44.8ms (+13%)

Everything seems stable. I ran prime95 overnight, no problems. I have read that the 770 chipset runs hot, so I may set everything to default and see how much of an increase i get on the chipset when OC'd. Seems this is about the best I am gonna be able to get out of this ram.
