If I got a Dell U2711....

Would I need to get another 6950
to run its native res at max settings for all games?

I like the idea of higher res, but not overly excited to drop
like 1500 on monitor related stuff for a marginal improvement.

maybe the U2311H IPS is the way? http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/dell_u2410.htm
or HP LP2475w? http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/hp_lp2475w.htm

Current monitor is: 24" Samsung Syncmaster BX2440

Na you would be fine. You might not get 60 FPS with MAX settings but I bet you would get 30ish.

Yes, another 6950 would be preferable.

EDIT: I'm in a similar situation, close to getting a u2711, but still not sure if its worth so much money.

EDIT2: Does this mean you gave up on that 27inch LG monitor few people have been getting?

Can you unlock your 6950 to the 6970? That should give you a very nice performance boost.

As for performance, you should take a look at this or any other review with benchmarks and make your own conclusion...

You will NOT be able to play EVERY single game at MAX setting with a solid 60 FPS at the native 2560x1440 res, but you could disable some eyecandy if you don't want to invest on a new card.

The drop in BFBC2 alone from 1080p to 1600p is 10+ FPS

can unlock, but the performance boost from unlocking
is minimal, given I have a decent OC on it now

I would prefer that one once some definitive verdict is out,
but I'm keeping my eye open to other possibilities since there's
no real info on that new LG monitor..

On a native 2560x1440 res, a 2GBvram+ card is essential. So yea, you're good for 99% of the games out there.

To max all games?

Yeah, you would.

To max 90% of games?

No, you wouldn't.
