What new hardware shall I get?

Hi, im noob at this stuff. Ive made a list on what I think is suitable, but I want your ideas as you lot seem clever, although im not in the pursuit of very good performance. My budget it about £200 but I would prefer cheaper smile.gif
My current system:
AMD Athlon XP 2500+
1.83GHz , 2GB RAM
NVIDIA 7800 GS graphics card (I will keep this).
What I may get:
Processor: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/238326 Athlon II X3 450 3.2GHz Socket AM3 95w 1.5MB L2
Motherboard: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/181968 Asus M4A78LT-M LE AMD 760G Socket AM3 DVI VGA Out 8 Channel Audio mATX
Power Supply: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/240998 Corsair 430W CX PSU 4x SATA 1x PCI-E
RAM: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/159919 Crucial DDR3 1333MHz/PC3-10600 Memory Kit CL9 1.5V 2GB or 4GB.

My current system doesnt have SSE2 or higher, and I really need it.
I may also be able to get windows 7 free and genuine, if so then I will get 4GB RAM.
Im not sure about a case but it doesnt seem to matter much and I want a cheaper price.
Anyway, What do you think and what do you reccomend (I need all components compatible smile.gif

I like all the parts you displayed except for the PSU. I would maybe go for 500+. Just to be on the safe side incase of a GPU upgrade. But since you say you are not in pursuit of performance, I would say you would be fine. I'm not sure if this matters to you but AMD's bulldozer comes out soon. I'm not sure if you would be interested in that. Also I don't believe it would be within your budget but its something to think about. What do you use your computer for? If for basic processes, I would say everything you displayed will be fine.

Well my main problem is I bought Portal 2 but my CPU doesnt support SSE2 which it needs so thats what I want. This old computer works perfectly for the games I play now (not laggy) but I want newer, better hardware which will not need upgrading for a long time.
Im thinking of getting Corsair 600W CX PSU - 2x PCI-E 6x SATA instead although it is a bit more expensive but I should handle it... what benefits does this 600 have compared to the 430? All I need is reliable hardware, which is all compatible, which supports as much things used in gaming for the future (SSE2,3,4 etc.)..
Thanks.
Edit infact on ebuyer the 600 is cheaper than the 400 due to... postage and... something else. But 600 has extra SATA and PCI-E.. or something. So it is much better value, im getting that.

Well as far as your current upgrade goes, its fairly current and as fast as technology grows, it will be old in a short time. That is to be expected but I think you will be fine. You may need more RAM at some point but it won't be a big issue at all.
Now as for the PSU, I'm happy to hear you found a good deal on a 600 Watt PSU. As you add more components to your build, you may need more watts. Especially with GPUs. Although many company's are making their products more eco friendly. Example would be higher end CPUs only needing 95watts.

http://extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp

People use this to help them get a good grasp on about how many watts their build will need. I recommend trying this and seeing what you get out of it.

Oh thanks, I used that calculator but I think I missed stuff but the wattage was in the 300s so 600 is definetly enough and the comparisons showed it is a good price. Il go for it.
So theres:
AMD Athlon II X3 450 3.2GHz Socket AM3 95w 1.5MB L2 Processor
Asus M4A78LT-M LE AMD 760G Socket AM3 DVI VGA Out 8 Channel Audio mATX Motherboard
Corsair 600W CX PSU - 2x PCI-E 6x SATA Power-Supply
from ebuyer and:
CT2KIT25664BA1339 4GB kit (2GBx2), 240-pin DIMM RAM
from crucial.
With a NVIDIA 7800 GS graphics card
Oh, and new speakers!

That looks great to me! aside from the GPU. That is an old unit. If you would like to upgrade, I have a GTX 260 if you are interested.

Looks good except for graphics card. Like the other guy said, a 260 might be good or maybe a GTS 450.

OK firstly speakers, does anyone know any speaker less than £10 which have a long cable and are good value?
Ive found this: Logitech S120 Black 2.0 Speakers - 2.3W RMS but im not sure on the cable length, it needs to be at-least 120cm (the cable).

Secondly, graphics card. For me this 7800 is very good even for games.
Ive found http://www.ebuyer.com/product/257221 Inno3D GTS 450 1GB GDDR5 VGA DVI HDMI Out PCI-E Graphics Card which looks good value and I think its compatible (PCI-E).
I dont want to spend too much so I probably wont buy it because my current 7800 GS is good enough.
How much would you sell the GTX 260 for?

Also, does this look real? http://www.osoo.co.uk/Asus_ENGTX260HTDI896M_Graphics_Card_GeForce_GTX_260_896MB_PCiE_DVI_Refurbished_Model(228495).aspx
